Authorities were reporting multiple victims in an “active shooter” attack in the area of Mercy Hospital on the Near South Side that brought out a large police presence Monday afternoon. Emergency crews were called to near the hospital, 2525 S. Michigan Ave., about 3:20 p.m. There were “reports of multiple victims” in the attack, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a tweet. Fire officials called an emergency medical services Plan II, sending at least 10 ambulances to the scene, because of an “active shooter” situation, a Fire Department spokesman said. A hospital employee said she was in her office when a notice came over a public address system telling those in the hospital to lock their doors. They were later evacuated and people were put on CTA buses as authorities dealt with the situation. “I don’t know what happened,” she said as she was ushered onto a bus. “They told us to run so we did,” one hospital employee said. Authorities were warning people to stay out of the area. Fire crews were at the scene. Check back for updates.

Well, I was no where near that craphole! But this morning I broke a filling on a MENTOS and spent all day waiting for the dentist. Last time I was there was the Vegas shooting, eerie coincidence.
Fun fact, when Teddy Roosevelt was shot, he was treated there.
My mom was born a few blocks away at the now gone Michael Reese hospital. White folk used to live down there.

Fox web site has a link to a live feed, looks like a drone. The whole city block is surrounded by police, blue lights flashing, looks like Christmas lights. Makes me wonder what is going elsewhere on the south and west sides while so many resources surround the hospital.

However, now I’m hearing the perp was after a specific woman at the hospital. Could be that others got caught in the crossfire. Given that it happened in South Chicago, I sure won’t be surprised if he’s black. 50/50.
