Celtics' Kyrie Irving says he's not planning to celebrate Thanksgiving: 'F--- Thanksgiving'
CBS Sports ^ | 11/22/1028 | By Jack Maloney

The Boston Celtics' early season struggles continued on Wednesday night with a 117-109 loss to the New York Knicks. Down by as much as 26, the Celtics made a big comeback in the fourth quarter, but fell short, largely due to some clutch shooting by Trey Burke. Now just 9-9 on the season, there will be plenty to discuss in regards to the Celtics' inability to meet expectations.

At the same time, there will also be plenty of discussion about one of Kyrie Irving's postgame quotes, in which he made it clear he doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving. MassLive's Tom Westerholm was on the scene:

Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving had finished talking about the team's frustrating 117-109 loss to the New York Knicks and was making his way out of the scrum when a reporter wished him a happy Thanksgiving.

Irving thanked the reporter politely, then added that he doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving.

"(Expletive) Thanksgiving," Irving said.

Irving confirmed to NBC Sports Boston's Abby Chin afterward that his opposition to Thanksgiving is rooted in his Native American heritage.

While it may be surprising at first to hear Irving's harsh thoughts about the holiday, it's important to remember the context here. Irving has Native American heritage, as his grandmother was a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, and his late mother was adopted out of the tribe when she was young.

Over the summer, Irving, who has a tattoo of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal logo on the back of his neck, went through a naming ceremony with the tribe along with his sister. He was given the name "Little Mountain."

>>Sounds like he has family who can’t stand his ass and didn’t invite him to Thanksgiving dinner

You ever see someone as tall as a pro basketball player banished to have to sit at the kiddie table on Thanksgiving???

#7. Please make that “taking the hard-earned cash of poor WHITE rubes” (and many blacks, Hispanics, Asians, etc.

Damned, now I have to sell all my Irving basketball cards. So be it. My Carmello Anthony and Dirk Nitkowski collection is doing fine. Got three new cards of Wilt The Stilt Chamberlain recently. He’ll be remembered long after irving has returned to the Happy Hunting Grounds, as worm food.

Thanksgiving Day is set aside to give “thanks” to God and America for the good things we have. Irving has millions but still bitches about things, but “he don’t live in the teepee hood, does he”?

Well that’s one less mouth to feed.....wonder how he’s helped feed the mouths of those he claims as an excuse not to celebrate Thanksgiving for. Indian tribes are always receptive to donations.

Maybe they call it “Protest-the-paleface-turkeys” giving? Not understanding that had anyone but white Christians taken a mind to colonize the New World, their American Indian descendants might not have even been here now to look cute or complain.

He’d rather be in Africa, eking out a living in a small village.

Watching black men running around in their underwear doesn’t do anything for me. Is this the basketball player in question? A boy named Sioux?

You’d feel this bitter too...if you’d just lost to the Knicks. He means nothing to me, just another brain-dead talentless scum so I don’t care that he disses Thanksgiving. IMO, every last one of these “Black Friday” ads disrespects Thanksgiving more than Kyrie Irving. Let Thursday be about thanks not commercialism.

Have said it many times but it still annoys me when the term Native American is used for American Indian.Anybody born in the USA is a Native American.

It’s all a guilt trip—they were here first and we came here as undocumented aliens, bla bla bla. I had ancestors from England who came here in the 1600s.We established the US of A. We are Native Americans.

Bouncing and throwing a basketball with skill in America has resulted in a multi-million fortune for Kyrie. In trashing Thanksgiving he has revealed himself to be an unwise, ungrateful fool. One of way too many.
