Meanwhile, Merz described himself as “upper middle class” yet he earns 1 million euros a year and has two private jets – not one. The rumor is Goldman Sachs is in its Crash & Burn mode for paying bribes and Blackrock will replace it as the most powerful financial institution in the world.

Notice Armstrong's comment on Goldman Sachs. GE/General Electric is another about to give it up due to corruption.

Your link somehow cropped what was between the "www." and the ".com".

The competition against Merz is weak enough...that most conservative-voter Germans will just overlook his business links.

Your other choices are Jens Spahn (late 30s, as good at debates as Ted Cruz, and just not ready for prime-time) or AKK (alias Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer). AKK came onto the national scene in the past two years, is a carbon-copy of Merkel, and is heavily endorsed by the pro-Merkel crowd. That said...most want a new direction and AKK won’t be able to compete against Merz.

All this party-chief job does (from the three contestants) is get you into the position of being party chancellor candidate in 2021 for the CDU Party.

From the remaining five parties...the Green Party might have someone capable of drawing 25-percent of the national vote, but it’s pretty dismal for the other parties ranging from far-right to far-left.

The party leadership election next month is crucial. If the CDU goes with AKK and thus lurches even farther to the left, Germany will end up with a Grens/SPD/Die Linke coalition in 2021.

I tend to agree....but the SPD is sliding off the plate, and they will be lucky to get 14-percent in the 2021 election...the Greens are moving up.
