Comey shares news of House GOP subpoena: 'Happy Thanksgiving'
The Hill ^ | 11/22/18 | Tal Axelrod

Former FBI Director James Comey revealed Thursday that he has received a subpoena from House Republicans to testify on Capitol Hill, but said he would refuse to do so unless it is a public hearing.

“Happy Thanksgiving. Got a subpoena from House Republicans. I’m still happy to sit in the light and answer all questions. But I will resist a 'closed door' thing because I’ve seen enough of their selective leaking and distortion," Comey tweeted.

"Let’s have a hearing and invite everyone to see,” he added.

The Hill reported earlier this month that House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) was planning to subpoena Comey to testify on Capitol Hill before Democrats take control of the committee in January.

The GOP chairman last week provided notice to Rep. Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.), the top Democrat on the panel and presumed incoming chairman, that he also intended to subpoena former Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

Comey responded by saying he was open to speaking with lawmakers but wanted to do it during an open session.

Republicans are keen to question Comey over records he reportedly made of his private conversations with President Trump before he was fired in May 2017.

During congressional testimony last year, the former FBI director said he kept records of such meetings because he felt the president inappropriately asked him to make a loyalty pledge while he was leading the FBI's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The president has denied making such a request.

Comey has also held that he did not disclose classified information when he shared some of the records' contents with a friend, Columbia University law professor Daniel Richman. Richman shared the information verbally with The New York Times, in what became a successful maneuver to prompt the appointment of a special counsel — Robert Mueller.

“It is unfortunate that the outgoing Majority is resorting to these tactics," Nadler said in a statement Friday.

"Months ago, Director Comey and Attorney General Lynch both indicated their willingness to answer the Chairman’s questions voluntarily. My understanding is that the Republicans have had no contact with either the Director or the Attorney General since," he added, stating that the subpoenas are "coming out of the blue."

He’s spent his life trying to imprison Americans on fake charges.

Now he’s upset at a little payback that has reality behind it?

Yeah, if James Comey is going to lie under oath again, dammit, he’s going to do it for all to see. You go, James.

He used a personal email address to send and receive classified stuff.

So let’s go after Ivanka who used one to talk about social events and stuff. Sound about right?

The Republicans are pathetic for waiting till the last minute to do this. Why not go hard with these investigations for their first 2 years? Now, the clock is almost out, and the Dems will take over.

Because it's all a charade.

So true. The only Chairman that tried to do his job, was Devin Nunes, and for his efforts, they screwed over him for the better part of a year.

The rest of them, goodlatte, that pompous south Carolinian asshole, tray howdydoody, with the 15 screwed up haircuts, nizza issa and those in the senate, all talk, no results.

Charade is the most accurate English description, the Japs call it kabuki theater.

Pure bullshit.

Back in the day when Issa and then Gowdy were strutting around talking tough I said they were both phonies that will do nothing.

I got many very nasty replies from folks on here.

All politicians are just actors who are dancing for the masses. That is why I like President Trump. He is not a politician, he is a true American.

Comey is the FBI's all-time expert on selective leaking and distortion. He went public on Hillary's felonies with classified material in June of 2016 trying to get her elected, mischaracterizing obvious serious felonies as merely reckless. He write a classified memo for the stated purpose of leaking the memo and getting a witch hunt special prosecutor appointed. I could go on for pages, but the bottom line is Comey is an expert when it comes to distorting facts.

What’s the big deal? If he is innocent, he has nothing to fear.

I am all for doing stuff in the open. It shows how weak the Republicans are.

Just keep this in mind when the RATS start their rainstorm of subpoenas and how Republicans will be expected to be there unconditionally bright and early the next day.
