It is doubly-ironic that Ocasio-Cortez was an economics major at Boston University, although one doubts that economics taught there would differ from the usual statism that dominates most college economics programs. One doubts that she intellectually internalized anything that would resemble price theory and certainly would not be able to identify anything resembling a shortage or surplus. That she will advocate for government intervention and establishment of programs that almost certainly will lead to shortages should not be lost on anyone.
The editors of The Nation and the New York Times may have convinced themselves that a young woman with a pretty face through sheer force of will can solve the problems that have bedeviled central planners for a century, but even though progressives may sincerely believe that economic laws dont exist, that changes nothing. It is nothing more than another exercise in progressive arrogance. Bernie Sanders is not the Keeper of the Secret who can make socialism work. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is not the Keeper of the Secret who can make socialism work. Joseph Stiglitz is not the Keeper of the Secret who can make socialism work. Paul Krugman is not the Keeper of the Secret who can make socialism work. There is no Keeper, no matter what American journalists tell us we are supposed to believe.

"They made a choice in one district. So lets not get yourself carried away as an expert on demographics and the rest of that," Pelosi told reporters at a news conference.
"Within the caucus or outside the caucus, we are ... again, we have an array of genders, generations, geography, and there is opinion in our caucus, and were proud of that," Pelosi added.
She noted that Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old democratic socialist who ran to the left of Crowley, is from a "very progressive district in New York" while noting that Crowley is a progressive but Ocasio-Cortez is "more left than" the congressman she defeated.
"The fact that in a very progressive district in New York it went more progressive than ... well, Joe Crowley is a progressive, but shes more left than Joe Crowley, is about that district. It is not to be viewed as something that stands for anything else."

Utopians are becoming convinced that modern IT technology will be the thing that finally makes it possible to centrally manage an economy.
Once SAP releases that Five Year Plan module...
I am actually tired of making fun of
her and her dad, Mr. Ed...
Hell, she won’t even be the one to make her TV Remote work.
Socialism: You work, I’ll eat.
Despite her enthusiasm, once the world figures out that this is what she’s up to, she’s finished.
We just have to make sure our side pins the tail on the donkey.
I’m sure that she’ll become wealthy in the effort.
When you are a fanatical worshiper of big government, and you believe that the ends justify the means and that might makes right, and that anything goes, then big government + force can make your utopian fantasies come true.
I’m waiting for someone to ask her if she is going to donate 80% of her income to help the poor.
Socialism NEVER WORKS.
It didn’t work for the Pilgrims and it’s never worked since.
I agree with Nancy ... amazing!
“You work, I’ll eat.”
Perfect.
?.. What are they talking about.?? Nicolás Maduro thinks it works great, for him... He has everything he ever wanted... he loves it..
The obsession with this woman is creepy as hell. There are fifty other deep blue district Democrats just like her, and whose voting records will be basically identical at the end of the 116th Congress. Who cares?
Dont be so sure. People have demonstrated a willingness to give up freedom for a meal or place to live throughout history.
She brought a TV built in Antenna
Ocasio-Cortex...where is Antenna?
She can best help the poor by doing her good works, on their behalf, in Congress. Keep those campaign dollars coming; 2020 is just around the corner.
But she puts herself up front everyday just begging us to make fun of how stupid she is. I feel obliged to help her out.
I taught university-level econ courses and if I had a student who espoused the totally-uninformed crap she does, I’d have flunked her. Even a Socialist economist with a modicum of knowledge about micro and macro policy wouldn’t make the stupid statements she’s made. The good news is that she’s equally stupid about other things (e.g., “The three branches of government at the President, the House, and the Senate.”). Yep, Brown graduated an econ major with the IQ of broccoli.
