Gun purchasers may need to submit social media history under proposed New York legislation

Those looking to buy a gun in New York may need to submit their social media profiles and search history prior to purchase if new firearm legislation in the state becomes law.

Under the legislation drafted by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and State Senator Kevin Parker, both Democrats, up to three years’ worth of search history on social media would be able to be reviewed, ABC Action News reported.

Senate Bill 9191, according to WHAM, mandates "social media and search engine reviews prior to the approval of an application or renewal of a license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver; requires a person applying for a license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver or a renewal of such license to consent to having his or her social media accounts and search engine history reviewed and investigated for certain posts and/or searches over a period of 1-3 years prior to the approval of such application or renewal; defines terms." Under the proposed legislation, law enforcement officials could investigate "commonly known profane slurs used or biased language used to describe race, national origin, ancestry, gender, religion, disability or sexual orientation; threatening health or safety of another person, or an act of terrorism."

As far as guns and tenants, I limit them to house no more than 3 firearms and no more than 250 rounds of ammo in any unit I own.

They won't see whitey slurrs as a crime. You must be a minority to bring a discrimination charge.

I have an acquaintance who lived in the old Iron Curtain.

He and his family are moving back to eastern Europe after the holidays. They have no desire to go through it again.

And I can’t blame them.

God have mercy on our souls.

FR instant denial?

Very likely.

They might think of something else to charge you with immediately.

As a voter, I do this to see which candidates have gun grabbers on their friends lists.

Not to worry.
I’m sure that Zuckerberg will be happy to make profiles of you for you.
(It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if it came to that)

Suspect it might be related to insurance on units.

I’ve only been a tenant a few short times in my life. Fortunately.

I traveled for a living for many years. Spend many nights in motel.

Carried in my car most of the time. Never put much thought to it. Now it’s not so simple.

I also find the public voter databases are a great source for tenant previous addresses and to see if they are lying or hiding something. I also learn their persuasion as well !!

I’m on Twitter, with minimum profile. For a long time. Am sure it is already there.

Gee, what if you don’t have a social media history?

I’ve never been on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Myspace or any of that narcissistic crap.

Is FR considered ‘social media’? (If so, I guess I’ll never get a license in New York.) (Not that I’d ever even go there)

Of course in China, you are now required to have a Social Media Score to get a job, open a bank account or rent a place to live. I guess that New York could require that you post to Twitter and Facebook and Instragram, and use a Google Mail address for all your emails, and use Google for your search engine, to make it all easy for them.

And while I’m sure that Google, Yahoo, and Bing would be glad to give (or sell) them your search history, unless you search only from a static IP address, or from your ‘registered smartphone, how do they know for sure it is you, without a massive NSA level investigation to correlate your entire online life.?

Just throwing something against the wall to see if it sticks. If it doesn’t, pass it anyway and throw something else.

I’m sure that is true. Had a good friend in NM who came from Upstate NY. She owned an import/export business on Long Island. She describe it to me and it must be beautiful.

Her father was in the wire and cable manufacturing business for long time. He owned Simplex wire and cable.

They were good people.
