"...legalized pot..."

Totalitarians like a soft, pliable, hazy, and unmotivated population over which to rule.
Every drug-loving person who I know voted for President 0bama and Secretary Clinton.
No thanks. Never tried drugs and don’t need to start now.

There is no evidence that legalization would create more drug-loving persons; but it would take pot profits out of criminal hands.

Legalization would in no way require you to try pot.

“Totalitarians like a soft, pliable, hazy, and unmotivated population over which to rule.”

What totalitarians really need however is lots of laws. Lots and lots of laws so that when they get in control, they can select one of many laws off the books to go after their opponents.

Once you have a society with so many laws that no reasonable individual can be expected to know, you have a lawless society. You also can’t legislate against stupidity.

As always, the best solution is to let states decide on the drugs laws as was intended by the constution, then we will have 50 different approaches ranging from prohibition to recreational use. Pick your state or get involved to set policy.

Federal drug law enforcement should be restricted to international, border, and interstate violations. There is plenty for Federal agents to do. We have very cheap heroin and illicit fentanyl right now. They need to focus their efforts on interdiction at the border and reducing the manufacturing of these opiates overseas.
