But, pushing a bill that was in praise of Confederate Soldiers may help her.
The years, 1861-1865, were a long, long, long time ago. But there are plenty of Southerners who can trace their families back to that time and they still have feelings about that, as do quite a few others. She might just get a boost.

1862 - 1865 Mississippi :
The invaded our state , repeatedly .
They tore down our fence and stole our livestock , killing and leaving to rot all that which they couldn’t eat or lead away . They stole our horses , they burned our barns , they ripped up our rail lines , they burned our small towns and sieged and looted our larger towns and cities . They mined and impeded our rivers , they flooded our low lands . They brought , caused or facilitated diseases. They raped our women and scared our children . They occupied our land and then installed foreign regime administration in the aftermath of their ‘victory ‘ Wherein more land was illegally seized and illegally re-distributed . Any who protested were jailed . Many had to migrate , flee , to the far west , forever leaving their occupied native land . Leaving the old folks who were too elderly to make the journey to fend for themselves , and depend on the mercy of the Good Lord for their survival . Surrounded by non native , non-friendlies . Guarding the ‘home place’ .
Yea , modern day white Mississippians have nothing to complain about .... Nothing to see here , just go with the revisionist history and move along . Never ! Deo Vindice !
