The political endgame in Illinois is the same as it is in California, NY, NJ, and Connecticut. They will eventually become Republican. But not until the Democrats bankrupt those states.

Judging by the Socialist progression in Europe, I am skeptical that is the natural progression of events. In fact, most Socialists attempt to solve their problems simply by doubling down on their previously failed policies.
The Republican party won't exist long enough for them to become Republican.
