United Nations Global Compact
What is the ‘United Nations Global Compact’?

The United Nations Global Compact is a strategic initiative that supports global companies that are committed to responsible business practices in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and corruption. This UN-led initiative promotes activities that contribute to sustainable development goals to create a better world.

BREAKING DOWN ‘United Nations Global Compact’

The UN Global Compact is based on 10 principles that should define a company’s value system and approach to doing business. These principles were collectively founded in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Labor Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the UN Convention Against Corruption.

Member companies are expected to engage in specific business practices that benefit the people and the planet while pursuing profitability with integrity.

The United Nations Global Compact’s 10 Principles for Businesses

The 10 principles for businesses, as stated on the UN Global Compact’s website, are the following:

Principle 1: Support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.

Principle 2: Ensure that business practices are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Principle 3: Uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.

Principle 4: Eliminate all forms of forced and compulsory labor.

Principle 5: Abolish child labor.

Principle 6: Eliminate discrimination in employment and occupation.

Principle 7: Adopt a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.

Principle 8: Conduct environmentally responsible activities.

Principle 9: Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Principle 10: Fight corruption in all its forms including extortion and bribery.

Companies that join the compact are expected to integrate these principles into their corporate strategies, culture and day-to-day operations. Companies are also expected to advocate the principles publicly and communicate with stakeholders on progress toward meeting the principles. Any company that commits to upholding the principles may join the compact, which is not legally binding and is purely voluntary.

Member Company Responsibilities of the UN Global Compact
Member companies of the UN Global Compact are expected to act in environmentally responsible ways with regard to climate change, water and sanitation, energy, biodiversity, and food and agriculture. They are also expected to recognize the link between environmental issues, and social and development priorities.

Member companies must also be focused on social sustainability, particularly human rights as they apply to labor, women’s empowerment and gender equality, children, indigenous peoples, people with disabilities, and people living in poverty. The compact believes that protecting human rights is primarily a government responsibility but businesses should contribute or, at a minimum, avoid harm.

Ways in which businesses can contribute to human rights include creating jobs, developing goods and services that help people meet their basic needs, promoting public policies that support social sustainability, partnering with other businesses to have a greater impact and making strategic social investments.

Incentives for Businesses to Support the UN Global Compact
Companies might choose to join the compact because of the importance of corporate codes of conduct for developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers, employees and other stakeholders, and to avoid regulatory and legal problems. Businesses may support the compact for the greater good but also because being associated with poverty and inequality, and operating in environments where the rule of law is weak can harm the company’s reputation and bottom line.

Further, companies that commit to sustainability may have an advantage in accessing untapped markets, attracting and retaining business partners, developing innovative new products and services while operating in a lower-risk environment, and encouraging employee satisfaction and productivity.

An example of sustainable activity by a member company is to support inclusive and equitable quality education, and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. A company might partner with governments and other companies to create open-source technology. This technology can deliver education to hard-to-reach communities and develop low-cost learning materials for under-resourced schools.

They are invaders of our sovereign nation and the Constitution mandates the Feds prevent such, regardless if they’re “international workers” or characters from Loony Tunes.

90% of the stuff posted here is from news organizations that lie and conflate the truth. By the time conservative news or blogs digest current events, it’s hours or days later.

Their story is true: Hondurans rushed our border, they cut wire, and we fired tear gas, they retreated. The interesting tip within the story is the name of the lead agitator and the organization for whom he is an activist.

Why don’t you be a good conservative and research him and the puebla frontera group and tell us all about it - as true news? speak the truth...inform...spread the news... enlighten us. report something of redeeming value.

back at ya.

Wow, that’s quite the find. Is there a list of UN Global Compact companies?

They intend to dictate standards of business practices to the world.

Don’t go down to Mexico anymore, it is not safe. It hasn’t been safe for a long, long time.

Good info. We were there a week ago, just when the first bus of LGBT+ showed up. No love lost amongst the locals. They still remember the 9-11 border closing and it hurt the local economy greatly.

The reason why TJ is being targeted is multiple.

First, TJ is the furthest from both WashDC and from Mexico City for chains of command.

Secondly, weather forecasts. Texas just dropped 20 degrees cooler than TJ. Warm winter in Baja at present.

PS. When we came through, the caravans weren’t all coming from the east. Many were coming up the Baja, so they had to cross the Sea of Cortez somewhere. Are they coming from the Ensenada Cruise Ship ports? Are the Chinese assisting in their shipping?

In an earlier simpler and more serious time, a-holes like Mujica would be found dead in some alley with evidence pointing to some cartel hit man. The US government and CIA would deny any knowledge.

No, Mexico was happy to just help them along, just passing through you know. Now, they are washed up against a fence, the Mexican people are turning against their government enablers. Natural flow of events now that the US has at last taken a stand against this criminal chaos.

Even the Mexicans hate them. Tijuana residents are getting fed up. I expect some bodies will be turning up soon.

I am convinced that not only the organizers of this invasion but also the caravan members themselves are Marxists. “We are international workers?” Indeed.

Ahh. The good old days!

In the good old days, if a parent found a man ‘messing’ with their child or their neighbor’s kid, they’d kill him, and the village would cheer.

If the man got away, they would hunt him down and kill him.

Justice was a swift and strong deterrent.

We should have loudspeakers at the border, announcing in Spanish “our sincere apologies for the inconvenience to our law abiding Mexican friends, but the failure of the Mexican government to prevent this situation from developing has left America with no choice but to defend itself against lawless invaders. As soon as the Mexican government takes necessary and appropriate action to revolve this crisis which they have allowed on their territory, the sooner America can renew her welcome to our lawful and friendly neighbors.”

A great weakness of FR. Amny have said when first visitng they thoght FR was a Leftist site what iwht all the psorting of Lying leftist media sourrces.

As I said, if this story is true and has some redeeming value, at least get the story from a reasonably reliable source, not from a known Lying Leftist operative posing as a “news” organization. You’ve done the Patriotic Right a service. Much better than the mindless repetition of lying sources and their lying headlines.

Harry Truman started the illegals being rooted out & sent back to Mexico. When Eisenhower was elected in 1952, he continued the efforts.

Truman called it “Operation Wetback” and they got 11 million illegals out of the USA in those years.

One of the main purposes of FR is to point out the bias and lies of the media. Sorry if you don’t agree the concept.
