As an introduction to the Quran, read Surah 9, which discusses Jihad:
And when the sacred months have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.You might say "But I'm not a polytheist, so this does not apply to me". Do you believe in the Trinity? Do you believe that Jesus was equally God with the Father? Then you are a polytheist per Muslim definition.
And then, the Hadith chapter on Jihad and Hadith chapter on dividing loot from conquest

Apparently Mohammed himself didn’t practice “true Islam” according to the New York Times.

NYT has protested truth in decades. Isn’t that a sorry thing for a prominent organization.
It’s always a throw away when people write a ton of cool words but never experienced the millions starved and jailed with the sound of those Black Marias, or maybe such freedoms in islam.

Sickening is the only word that can describe the output of the NYT over the years.
That .. and backstabbing, low-life scum masquerading as a newspaper/editorially sound platform for the dissemination of truth and fact.

NYT is worthless and brainless.
“It’s unlikely that anyone laughed” because nobody has such a macabre sense of humor.
There are many Muslims, some devout, who don’t kill infidels. After all, they pay well and some infidels are pretty nice fellows to work for. But blasphemers? There are some who have a very high threshold as to what constitutes blasphemy. There are also some devout Abrahami Suffis who believe jihad is an internal struggle, but even they might not forego killing a blasphemer, if they believed blasphemy had been committed.
Many people will be decent to others regardless of their cultural milieu. And, I’m convinced that some people are born misfits. But, in between, there’s a significant population fraction that can be pushed in either direction, depending on what they are exposed to.
Islam pushes a lot of them towards the dark side. Islamic recruitment should be discouraged in prison, where it entrains people with demonstrated antisocial tendencies with the promise they can act out on the unbelievers.
In a milder fashion, today’s leftists play on the weaknesses of the psychologically malleable.
An interesting side conversation could be had on estimating the population distribution of these tendencies.
It would have to be estimated. Torabora doesn’t respond to survey study questionnaires. Would make a great spoof to draft one.
In fact, it may not even have appeared in the paper but only on the website. In any case, newspapers provide space in print or on line for people who write articles on their own.
By publishing op-eds they do imply that the article isn't completely absurd or dishonest, but they aren't necessarily endorsing the opinions in the op-ed.
