There was a time when the Holy See concentrated on reality, sadly that time appears to have passed.
They should work on preventing Marxist Popes.
I love the idea of saving American lives. But I do worry that these robots will turn on Humanity at some point in the future.
The pope and others in the Catholic Church should concern themselves with spiritual matters not with geopolitical things.
1.A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2.A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3.A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.
and also —
0. A robot may not injure humanity, or, by inaction, allow humanity to come to harm.
Like Mohammadans ?
I’d want to see the looks on the illegal aliens’ faces when they come at the border and see an army of robotic, acid blooded, head-biting Xenomorphs waiting for them.
“Yeah SURE! With those THINGS runnin’ around out there? You can count me out!”
I agree somewhat.
No autonomous combat vehicles.
There needs to be a man in the loop, if just to be able to say “Stop!”
Oh, and a foolproof “off” switch.
Remember the Star Trek episode where a war was fought on cumputer simulators and people who were targeted for death just walked into an extermination machine???
When I first saw video of that robot that could run, I found it disturbing and didn’t really understand why at the time, but I now realize that the only reason anyone would want a bipedal robot that could run would be pursuit. Pursuit of what, or whom? We know what the answer will ultimately be. I dislike being in agreement with this man, he is a charlatan and an impostor, he has no business anywhere near Christianity or any religion whatsoever. He’s a Marxist first and foremost. That does not mean that he’s always and forevermore wrong about every single thing, though. He’s not wrong about this.
"Too late meat sacks! We're here and have your beer!"
Hey bender, the Vatican is gunning for ya!!
This really should not be on the list of the Vatican’s top 3,487 concerns right now.
This is a blind squirrel getting a nut sort of thing.
Killer robots have already left the realm of science fiction.
Maybe the Vatican should consider banning priests having sex with minors (or each other) before it worries about the behavior of robots. Oh, that’s right. Francis has banned all discussion of that problem because he has a but meeting in February. And now he’s started making moves to cancel that meeting so really, just can’t talk about it anymore. Sorry, victims! We’ve moved on to robots.
Or we could go ahead and develop them, keeping our people out of harms way when we have to go into a hostile environment. Hmm, saves lives... By developing them we also would understand how best to defeat or defend against them, protecting our people. Hmm, again saving lives...
Is a cruise missile a robot?
Is a drone a robot?
Technology that promises huge profits just can’t be stopped. Even research into human DNA tinkering, nano weapons, bio-chem weapons, AI, DEW weapons, HAARP, drone insects, etc....simply can’t be stopped. The reason: our enemies are doing it. Keep up, or die. The merry-go-round is spinning like a lathe and they can’t get off. The prospects are truly chilling.
Hey Vatican, stop with the subterfuge and concentrate on the spiritual war that is taking place here and now!
