Pubbies can’t sell freedom responsibility. Amazing Disappointing, but not surprising.
You will sometimes hear ambition expressed as, “I want more responsibility.” That is entirely unbelievable; nobody wants responsibility. Everyone wants authority (and freedom is authority over one’s own affairs), but no one actually wants responsibility (for themselves - they demand it of others).

Here’s the lament of the person who perceives that he has responsibility but not authority:

It's not my place to run the train
The whistle I can't blow.

It's not my place to say how far
The train's allowed to go.

It's not my place to shoot off steam
Nor even clang the bell.

But let the damn thing jump the track
And see who catches hell.

With authority must come responsibility, and some people have no taste for that at all.
