Reagan knew when to hold and when to fold: Lebanon, for example. Our Founding Fathers and the Presidents of the 18th and 19th Centuries also held that freedom was God-given. Yet the United States intervened militarily only when, as with the Barbary pirates or the British, our economic interest, specifically foreign commerce, was involved.
