Trump judicial nominees stall on Hill, as Flake digs in over Mueller plan

Confirmation proceedings for President Trump’s judicial nominees have partially stalled on Capitol Hill, as outgoing Arizona GOP Sen. Jeff Flake is standing firm in his vow to oppose all Trump nominations until the Senate votes on legislation to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe.

Flake, a frequent Trump critic who opted against running for re-election this year, followed through on his threat Wednesday afternoon and joined Democrats in opposing a bid to advance Thomas Farr’s nomination to serve on the federal bench for the Eastern District of North Carolina. Vice President Pence was then forced to break a tie on a procedural vote, in a rare Senate intervention.

A final confirmation vote on Farr’s nomination had been expected Thursday, but Fox News has learned it has now been pushed until at least Dec. 3.

While nominees like Farr may narrowly advance on the floor, proceedings at the committee level are stuck for now. Late Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee canceled plans for a Thursday meeting to vote on a long list of judicial nominees. Flake is a member of that committee. None of the nominations would have been favorably moved out of the committee if all Democrats plus Flake voted no.

Meanwhile, nominees already passed out of committee could be confirmed on the floor, though they may result in more airtight votes requiring Pence to serve as tie-breaker.

Someone forgot about equal justice under the law.

Everyone abiding by the same laws. But the issue there is there are so many politically composed Federal Laws that no man can completely avoid crossing some of them. Even without knowledge of their existence.

McTurtle should tell Flake if he got his way, it wouldn’t protect Mueller; it would result in his being fired because it would remove any incentive the President has to defer to Congress.

It would accomplish the exact opposite of what Trump’s enemies seek in tying his hands.

That is if Flake can be made to see reason. I doubt it.

Jeff Flake speaks for the GOP, the party of Bush(rinos and neverTrumpers)

The GOP is a completely FAKE party. America is taking her last breaths and the Republicans are busy stabbing Trump in the back.

Tar and feathers time.

Yet another “swamp dweller”. Lets face it, Flake is a card carrying “Rat”. How many times have we seen him vote WITH the demodummies?

If we had an Attorney General, Flake would already have been in the slammer for some time.

McConnell won’t because he doesn’t want to give the Democrats precedent like they did with the nuclear option on judges. What he doesn’t comprehend is the Democrats could care less,if they have the votes or the power legal or otherwise they do it.

Flake should be considered persona-non-grata by the Republican party at the state and federal level and given no preference or favors. He is truly the span of the devil McCain.

I don’t know why trump picked a judge 64-years old. I want 40-year olds. That will help the country. Not a guy who could be dead anytime.

Yep. If the country had a real AG (not Sessions), 95% of Congress and Judiciary would have joined The Flake! Maybe the Acting AG will actually enforce the Law!

There is something nagging at me that keeps reminding me that Trump is a fighter and a counter puncher, that this is not the end of it. The corruption and evil are so deeply entangled, here and globally, that it may well have to take longer than anyone of us wants.

But, if he is really going to prevail (he plays to WIN), then I’ve got to believe that, only with God’s help and his God-given superior intellect, he will prevail. To contemplate otherwise is just gets too depressing (although I do slip into that mode more frequently than I should!)

Flake told President Trump to go to hell. And Trump just takes it with Twitter his only plan.

Trump's hands are tied on this one. Senate doesn't take orders from the President and lame ducks don't care about threats of political consequences.

Here's a pic of Flake behind the scenes explaining his position to colleagues:

Amendment IV

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated”

Here’s your Christmas present from President Trump, Mr. Mueller, it’s an injunction.

Flake is having his tantrum. He will minorly delay good Republican judges but it will also make it harder for voters to trust alleged moderates in the future so that is actually a good thing I think.

these RINOS who want to protect Mueller.

surely the best way to explain this insanity is the GOP are covering up the fact they are complicit - with the Dems & Five Eyes, etc(?) - in the attempt to stop Donald Trump becoming President, and to overthrow him once he became President.

nothing else makes sense.

The senate needs to invest in some fresh Head and Shoulder dandruff shampoo to get rid of their unwanted Flake’s. It’s really unsightly.
