“Simple, Trump is going to have to go full Pinochet if there is any chance at saving the republic. Conclusion: they win. Now, if Trump does actually decide to man up and call out the militia, then I will happily eat the biggest dish of crow”

This^^ Not too many options left. If the people have to do this, it’s going to be really messy.

It ain't rocket surgery or brain science. The old saying of 'life is hard, but it's harder if you're stupid' may be apropos in this case.

To wit, while it's hard to predict the future, it's even harder if you don't understand history. Human nature isn't complex. Governments have followed the exact same templates around the globe for all of all recorded (and pre) history.

Power concentrates; in lieu of a sovereign, power will coalesce among a tight cabal of insiders. The founders' spoke directly of this threat to the nascent republic. Well, guess what? It happened and here we are, collectively holding our puds.

So, there's only one possible outcome: the return of a king (or emperor, dictator or whatever label one wishes to place). The question really comes down to who will best protect the civil rights and economic interests of the productive class? Look at China, look at Russia, and soon, look at the USA. It's either that, or hand over power to the mob who will really show normal Americans what persecution is all about.
