I’m 50 years old with four college degrees.

OK stop the tape right there. Why in the Wide World of Sports does anyone need 4 college degrees?

To find one that was marketable?

I only have two degrees, undergrad and MBA. I'm also 38, female, single, never married, never wanted to be married, and quite content with my life. And I don't need to lectured by this woman on the mistakes she thinks she made. That's fine for her, it's not the same for everyone else.

If you get an education “to the maximum level” (per the article), you would get a bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D in a subject. She may have added on a law degree or an MBA.

You are wrong.

I have three degrees. It is not uncommon. I have dual undergraduate degrees, Math and Economics. It is very easy because instead of getting a major and minor you just choose the classes to get the dual. No increase in numbers, just specialization.

I also have a masters in one. She could very well have a PhD in one also. That would be four degrees.

The more important question is what are the degrees in? A PhD in abstract painting would not be as productive as one in Chemistry.

So I was watching a local Boston tv show about people with local businesses. One story that caught my attention was one about a woman who had a bake shop that she enjoyed. She mentioned that she had a degree in psychology but then quit to start the bakery. She wasted years and many thousands of dollars because no doubt her parents impressed on her the need to get a college degree. I wonder how many people have had a similar experience? College can be a ripoff if you are not sure what you really want to do.

“I’m 50 years old with four college degrees.”

Usually when someone brags about the number of degrees they have, they are a school teacher, and yes, school teachers rack up lots of degrees as they get guaranteed raises with each one - meaningless degrees, but still degrees.

It is not that unusual. I have 3--AA, BS, Ph.D. Some people get a MS or two, some get two Ph.D.s or a Ph.D. along with a medical degree of some sort. Often, people consider the degrees they have and think that they could do so much more if they only had more degrees.

I did not go this woman's route. I'm almost at 38 years of marriage, and have two kids and two grandkids. I rejected feminism.
