its almost certain that within a few hours, somewhere, some idiot will blame climate change... You think itll take hours for that to happen? Youre quite an optimist.

I thought the structures in Anchorage would be built to withstand a strong earthquake.

DUTCHSINSE has updates at 10 p.m. every evening or when a major seismic event takes place. His forecasts are quite accurate.

At a depth of ~26 miles, the fault plane is probably the surface between the continent and the subducting tectonic plate.

Magnitude 6.7 Earthquake Strikes Alaska: USGS
By Yereth Rosen
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - A magnitude 6.7 quake struck just south of Point MacKenzie, Alaska on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake had a depth of 26.7 miles (43 km) and its epicenter was located 7 miles (11.4 km) from Anchorage.
Although the National Weather Service initially said there was no tsunami danger, a few minutes later the agency said on Twitter that there was a warning in place for Cook Inlet.

Its almost certain that within a few hours, somewhere, some idiot will blame climate change... An "expert" was doing exactly that on FOX NEWS. HARRIS FAULKNER clarified that geological events are not weather related. LOL

Yet another aftershock, just now, per KFQD.

I would caution them NOT to use the fireplace, because if it is cracked somewhere, the house could go up in flames.

A 6.6 is not a huge earthquake.
*********************************************
Depends on more factors that must that. Depth, for one.

“...prompting people to run out of offices and seek shelter under office desks...”
Either a) Alaskans REALLY love being outdoors to work, even if it is an office job or
b) The EQ shook the desks outside.
Parts of Anchorage are built on pretty loose soils - so a 6.6 can do a lot of damage. Prayers up for them - and it looks the cold weather won’t be any help.
