It all depends on the depth and intensity. A 6.6 can be more damaging that say a 7.5 if the depth is more shallow.

a mag 7 is "huge", or at least "major" ( Northridge was a 6.7) BUT, the important factor determining damage is Liquefaction , Anchorage is built on Jelly
I am sure it was quite a ride and plenty of infrastructure damage
