Start with ANWR. Drill wherever and whenever. Frack, even if the state doesn’t like it. (I’m talking to you, Andrew.) Shoot for energy self-sufficiency ASAP.

Many reasons for diesel being higher.

First and foremost the greenie Gaia worshippers HATE diesel.
Diesel was the first petroleum product they targeted in their Save the Earth crusade.
Remember how diesels used to smoke?
That led to pressure to produce Low Sulphur Diesel (LSD).
Refineries had to spend money to upgrade their facilities to produce the LSD.

Refineries again had to spend billion$$$ to update their equipment to produce Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel (ULSD) by 2010. They need to make that money back.

Federal and state taxes are higher on diesel than gas.
Since all big trucks and trains use diesel the politicians have a built-in tax base for on road diesel.
Compare the prices for on and off road diesel. The extra cost for on road diesel is just extra taxes.
The only difference is the dye used to mark the off road product.

The rest of the world uses much more diesel than the US meaning most of the lower grade crude like Venezuela’s goes to Europe, India, China etc.

Heating oil is diesel fuel, I’ve used diesel while waiting for my next heating oil delivery. That also seasonally affects the price.

Federally mandated gasohol is heavily subsidized, again affecting the price difference.

Without government taxes and regulations the price of diesel would be about half the price of gas. Like it was in our younger days.

Good point. They SHOULD be way higher. A 9-ton big rig does 400 times the damage to a road as a 2-ton car.

Obama fought the oil and gas industry every way that he could and tried to destroy the Coal industry. The fought him and won . . .
. . . and their "prize" was HIS reelection due to THEIR effect on the economy.

They pay extra, this is above the registration fees.

Heavy Vehicle Use Tax - Federal Highway Administration

https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/policyinformation/hvut/mod1/whatishvut.cfm

the weight of the maximum load customarily carried on the vehicle and on any trailers or semitrailers customarily used in combination with the vehicle ; If the gross taxable weight is from 55,000 to 75,000 pounds, the HVUT is $100, plus $22 per 1,000 pounds over 55,000 pounds

“A 9-ton big rig...”

The article you linked to spoke only of weight.
It said nothing about the taxes actually paid.

FYI there is a 12% excise tax on road tractor purchases, trucks pay fuel taxes at the pump as well as HIGHWAY USAGE TAXES (IFTA) to each state they operate in, extra taxes on tires, you name it rigs pay an extra tax on it. And this is only a partial list of taxes. We’re not beginning to examine permits.
Rigs are taxed to the max.
Each rig pays far more in taxes and tolls than they get from the taxation and tolls.
Compared to trucks auto owners pay a piddling amount in road use taxes.
Not only do the rigs make your way of life possible, they pay for a hefty piece of the infrastructure.

Rather obtuse. They overcame the obstacles he set in front of him and managed to survive a difficult time where many Oil Companies and Coal Companies went broke.. Are you saying that the oil industry was responsible for getting him re-elected? THEIR effect on the economy? Are you serious?

Do you think that Obama would have been reelected with the economy he deserved?

No - the economy was much better than what his policies would have allowed if the oil companies had not been able to overcome the obstacles he put in their way . . . and that is why he got reelected.

#1 In California where I am it is $3.89 for 89 octane thanks to the democrat party. The politicians get free cars and gas from the taxpayers so they do not care.
