Huge Dana Carvey fan. He was one of the first people I thought of after Dubya, Laura, their girls and Jeb, on hearing the news. I imagine he, too, is brought to tears.

Carvey, as GHW noted in the video, never crossed the line, but gave him a lot of laughs. Can you imagine Angry Baldwin ever earning such an accolade at the White House?

It was very nice of Bush 41 to let his mother Barbara serve as First Lady.

I imagine you think that old, worn out, much-repeated bit of ageist misogyny is a real knee-slapper. (eye roll) (groan)

I used to resent Perot for that, but I understand it now. The Bush family are deep state globalists.

He wanted to right the ship of state in many of the ways Trump is doing. If only it hadn't gotten so much worse before people finally looked past the messenger to hear the message.

I remember the President telling Dana “You sound more like me than me”. RIP Mr. President.

I was in college during the Bush I years as well. Back then, as now, everyone to the right of Stalin was a Nazi and thus Bush was Hitler incarnate, according to the tenured profs, left-wing activists, and perpetual students. Even when he sold out the base with raising taxes, the opinion of him on campus did not appreciably change.

“[They] didn’t demonize the other side,” Carvey replied. “It was just a different time.”

Who WAS doing & IS doing the demonizing, Mr. Carvey?

"...while lamenting the "scorched-earth, angry politics" of today."

Today? Sorry, but the Dems started their scorched-earth, angry politics even before Bush. They've just refined their attacks over the years, and are the experts at angry politics.

Perot beat Bush not Clinton. 12 posted on 12/01/2018 8:27:24 AM PST by zanarchist

I look at it that Clinton didn’t deserve to win but, with his “read my hips” betrayal, GHWB did deserve to lose.

And, in light of history, the Trump Republican Party is pretty much the second coming of Perot’s Reform Party.

“They welcomed my wife and I to the White House,”

Object pronouns vs. subject pronouns
