I saw Dana Carvey at a private showing in Las Vegas the night before Trump’s inauguration.
Side splitting funny. His act wove lots of political humor without being politically offensive.
He managed to be like Johnny Carson, joking and making fun of everyone with no obvious angst.
Total class act

Time marches on. Semi-shocked that Dana Carvey is 63.
Truly a different era, though, when Carvey's portrayal of GHWB was something that people on all political sides could chuckle about. Contrast that with Alec Baldwin's unfunny, malevolent stint as Trump.

For 10 days we are going to hear how genteel, how accommodating, how compromising, how pleasant Bush was in comparison to Trump.
The Dems love Republicans that they beat.

It was very nice of Bush 41 to let his mother Barbara serve as First Lady.

Huge Dana Carvey fan. He was one of the first people I thought of after Dubya, Laura, their girls and Jeb, on hearing the news. I imagine he, too, is brought to tears.
Carvey, as GHW noted in the video, never crossed the line, but gave him a lot of laughs. Can you imagine Angry Baldwin ever earning such an accolade at the White House?

I remember the President telling Dana “You sound more like me than me”. RIP Mr. President.

[They] didn’t demonize the other side,” Carvey replied. “It was just a different time.”
Who WAS doing & IS doing the demonizing, Mr. Carvey?

"...while lamenting the "scorched-earth, angry politics" of today."
Today? Sorry, but the Dems started their scorched-earth, angry politics even before Bush. They've just refined their attacks over the years, and are the experts at angry politics.
