But the only "union" in the E.U. is the unelected ruling caste, which rules with an iron hand...

I don't think the historical parallel is with Hitler at all, I think it's with the dynasties, in particular the Habsburg one. Consider the EU's ambitions and their resemblance to the late Austro-Hungarian Empire: polyglot, multinational, autocratic, ruled by an insular elite (so tightly controlled that the Spanish branch of the ruling family turned into inbred freaks), heavily taxed, fissiparous, and when it finally did disintegrate in a haze of mud and poison gas it took the continent with it. It is not quite true that Europe wants its aristocracy back; the only Europeans who do are the would-be aristocrats. As usual.

Not as absurd as you might think. My State in Australia put forward a proposal to tax water collected off your own roof. There reason was if you capture it then it is prevented from going into the aquifer. Water from the aquifer is pumped up by farmers and taxed. There was an uproar at the time but give it another 20 years and it will seem reasonable to the climate change generation.

I know it’s not, when you understand how statists & socialists think.

If there is ever a famine, and you are able to grow your own food, they will surely tax you for it, or requisition it from you, even though finding a way to be less of a burden on society should be a good thing. After all, you utilized minerals and nutrients in the earth, and water, and sunlight. Those things don’t belong to you. Any time anyone is able to do something for themselves without having to pay a tax, it diminishes government’s power.

People think a property deed means ownership. Hah! It’s a rental contract to permanently pay taxes on.
