They had two years to defund Planned Parenthood, and they failed, said Kristan Hawkins, president of the anti-abortion group Students for Life of America. Its a huge frustration. We worked so hard to elect supposedly these pro-life Republican officials, and we expected results.
As disappointing as this might be, it comes down to basic math, and Democrats had it on their side. The House has passed defunding language on a number of occasions, but the filibuster rules in the Senate require 60 votes for any appropriation bill. Not only couldnt Republicans find nine Democrats to vote to strip Planned Parenthood of eligibility for Title X programs funds, they couldnt get two of their own caucus to go along Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski. Thats not going to change in the lame-duck session, so Republicans in the House probably want to focus on the possible for their final few weeks in the majority.

Under GOP leadership, losing is what they do best. Even with both houses of congress and the presidency.
Democrats get more done in the minority than the GOP does when holding all the cards. Trump is the only thing that has even slowed them down for the last thirty years.
I can’t pretend to know the minds/hearts of those in question.
Nor have I that closely followed the entire abortion issue, and so can’t speak with conviction re your assertion of ‘wholeheartedly’.
Similarly, knowing very little for certain that goes on in the cesspool that is DC, I’ve nothing on which to base an opinion that coercion has never been involved.
As to the latter, it should go without saying that an otherwise honorable individual with a gun to their head or to that of a family member is a victim, not a collaborator.
To the former, and absent coercion, it still seems to me that either one collaborates or one doesn’t.
But I’m just an old carpenter who’s already been wrong a couple times this year, so maybe this is the third, who knows ;-)
The House is an absolutely worthless branch. We practically have a one party system in the USA. This not healthy for the Republic.
Pay no attention to the rational man and just keep the mindless bashing up.
2014: "We need the White House! We can't get nothing done while Obama is still there! Sheesh, you impatient right-wing wackos!"
2016: "Yes! We got all three branches!"
Jan 2017-Jan 2019: Crickets
2020: "We gotta win the House again to stop the spending! If you don't back us now, mean-old conservatives, Dems will keep the House and maybe take the Senate and WH! Ooogadaboogada!"
“The GOP has never been anti-Planned Parenthood.”
Considering that their founder Margaret Sanger ended her years as a bigwig in the Tucson Women’s Republican Club you probably have a point.
The #1 cause and failed
RINOs threw in the towel on everything except one tax cut and one Supreme.
Everything else was kicked down the road.
They had two years to defund Planned Parenthood, and they failed, said Kristan Hawkins, president of the anti-abortion group Students for Life of America.
Same goes for making the tax cuts permanent, and building the wall, and confirming judges.
These lawmakers are going to be held accountable for the murder of these precious babies. Woe to them and woe to those who support their legislative decisions.
This is complete bullshit. They don’t need to strip funding from Planned Parenthood, they need to just not give it to them in the first place. If it’s not added to the budget to start with, then there’s no fight to get it removed...
Why is this a legislative issue and not a judicial one? Surely this can be adjudicated in court arguing that public monies should not go to any organization that uses said monies to support activities deemed immoral by a significant number of taxpayers. It is akin to the NRA being given public tax monies to arm citizens in high crime areas for instance. (At least gun possession is spelled out in the Constitution while abortion was carved out by activist judges).
Its math folks.. without 60 in the Senate you cant pass it
That’s false. It’s not a hill to die on for the GOP so they don’t fight it.
The fact is no Congress is obliged by a previous Congress. If it was just “math” there should also be no problem with Wall funding. Heads I win (killing babies at Planned Parenthood), tails you lose (no wall funding.)
Something is not adding up with the “math” here, FRiend. Don’t be played by the GOP surrender theater. Instead face the ugly truth: the GOP loves Planned Parenthood.

Actually, half a tax cut. The corporate tax cut that K Street wanted is permanent. The personal tax cut for Main Street expires because the beltway GOP wasn’t bribed enough to fight for it, apparently.
Same goes for making the tax cuts permanent, and building the wall, and confirming judges.
K Street got permanent corporate tax cuts while Main Street got expiring tax cuts. If that doesn’t show you where the loyalty of the GOP is nothing will.
Look at the two GOP standard-bearers for Planned Parenthood in the Senate: Murkowski and Collins. Is it a coincidence that they represent two of the "whitest" states in the U.S.?
Rush Limbaugh nailed it years ago.
Too many highly placed RINO’s only spew as much of the Pro Life line as they must to placate their voters.
Secretly they are all-in on abortion. Largely because their wives are, and they’re afraid of them.
