DC officer says department is massaging the numbers when it comes to violent crime
FOX 5 ^ | Dec 04 2018 | Marina Marraco

Crime is an affliction that plagues all major cities.

In the District, the past three years have seen an ebb and flow of violence ...

But a close look at DC police crime stats reveals ...

One veteran DC police officer is blowing the whistle on what he calls years of corruption and crime reclassification by the department.

"If it's a burglary and someone enters the home, but nothing was taken they'll have us re-classify it as Unlawful Entry which brings the crime down from a felony to a misdemeanor ... Felonies are reported to the FBI – the Uniform Crime Report compiles the statistics, providing a national barometer of violent crime

...

He noted that the reclassification turns the shooting into an incident, not a crime.

A search of DC police reports for a 19-month period up to April of 2018 showed that D.C. police had taken nearly 3,000 reports for ‘Injured Person to Hospital’.

Of those reports, 61 were for gunshot wounds, and only 11 of those were self-inflicted.

But the classification infers that no crime had been committed.

Yet in some cases, there are shell casings that cover the street and, in others, victims telling police they’ve been shot by someone else. But because the shooting is now listed as an incident instead of a crime .. the investigation ends there.

The officer says he has been on scenes where he’s been told to reclassify such incidents.

“Yes, I've been on the scene I know what it is, they say no we're going to make it this. And you know we're looking at each other like wow and we’re like ‘okay’,” he said. “There's no need to get discipline over that so we just go ahead and re-classify.”

This is pandemic. A webmaster in Sacramento early on in the “online crime statistics”, naively believed the Police Chief when he proclaimed “open public stats”. As soon as the web guy followed through, the stats hit the fan.

FBI has been found to massage the figures as well. If the Febbies can do it, that gives the local LEOs the go-ahead.

So when I shoot the “illegal entrant”, assuming I am in my home, are they going to charge me with murder?

Not exactly new in the annals of politically motivated police officials in large cities. Certainly not unique to DC. More commonly found in college towns where high violent or sexually motivated crimes are reclassified to assuage the sensibilities of concerned parents leery of sending their kid into a societal hellhole.

This is very common in many countries.

Governments routinely downplay or ignore incidents to make them look better.

It used to be a Progressive talking point that government numbers were unbiased and reliable.

We can see they are full of biases. To be reliable, there must be incentives for honest reporting, punishment for poor reporting, and active cross checking unconnected from the original reporters.

Holder & Hussein dismissed a default judgment, on voter intimidation, against the thugs in the New Black Panther Party.

Broward County hid crimes.

The Holder & Obama program was designed to keep young black criminals out of jail.

The Broward county sheriff was involved at every step.

Which is why Nikolas Cruz was still on the street and able to pull off his massacre.

I like that !
Reclassify all crime.

Car Jacking = change of driver
Theft = property transferal
assault = unofficial cage match
felony menacing = display of wares
arson = urban camp fire
domestic disturbance = practice for “Family Feud”
discharging a weapon = early 4th of July
vehicle pursuit = drivers ed.

Sorry; but this makes sense to me!
