(Alaska) One school in Mat-Su was so badly damaged by Fridays earthquake that it wont reopen this school year, and the status of five others remains up in the air.
The quakes epicenter was in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, the second-largest municipality in Alaska with more than 100,000 residents, about a third of whom work in Anchorage. The magnitude 7.0 quake shredded asphalt around the borough, but wreaked most havoc near the epicenter on Point MacKenzie, near the boroughs port.
At least 117 people here reported mostly minor injuries such as bruises, cuts or anxiety, according to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Some reported broken bones. One Houston resident suffered serious smoke inhalation trying to put out a post-quake fire at his home before responders arrived.

It would be cheaper to close the school fire all the staff and pay the parents to home school.
You couldn’t pay me enough to home school my kids. I need my down time.
Looking on the bright side here, one less year of professional commie training at the hands of ‘trained’ socialists. Win! Win!
Alaska Ping.
I guess no one works? It would be nice to home school but I’m guessing not everyone has that option.
I hear you.
People on this site tend to say, pull your kids out of public school and homeschool them. But how many of us want to actually do that?
I may get in trouble for saying this, but when it comes to children and spouses, you can love them but not necessarily want to be with them 24-7 , being everything in life for them.
Nothing wrong with doubling up class size at other schools. I had 39 classmates with one teacher. Today, schools have 17 students with a teacher and an aide.
I would think parents in AK could round some of the teachers and have them do some classes in a vacant building or large house.
Oh you know I was reading last night about some wonderful new charity that Castro’s Man-Child has pledged 50 million of Canada’s tax dollars to “Education Cannot Wait, an organization that funds education for children affected by conflicts, natural disasters and other crises”.
I bet if this school district asked for help from them they’d get it right away!!!
Unless, of course, it’s just the latest, global, money laundering operation with very dark roots behind it.
:/
Not the Mat-Su that Nixon and Kennedy argued about in 1960 during one of their debates.
