I gained my PhD in English Literature at Swansea University in 2018 with a study of the contemporary fiction of Jeanette Winterson. In this research, I created a fresh critical discourse about her work by providing a new conceptual model I term ‘alternative fetishism’. This combines the negative and positive associations of fetishism and substitution to analyse the distinctive ways in which Winterson’s obsession with the English language drives her diverse narratives."
