They usually get “fellowships” which are generally more than $15.00 an hour. She is screwing her interns.

Rising Star? That’s all it takes is to get 16k votes in the democrat party and you become a star?

Ask yourself this: There's 435 House Representatives in the country. How many of them would you recognize if they were standing in line behind you at Walmart?

She's undoubtedly one of the top 10 most recognizable politicians in the America. Yes, she's a star. That's why nobody was buying that crap about her being mistaken for an intern. When she arrived in DC, everyone knew exactly who she was.

And, yes, it's driving Nancy Pelosi crazy.

A TYPICAL DEMOCRAT Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted she will pay her interns at least $15 an hour.
“Time to walk the walk, Very few members of Congress actually pay their interns. We will be one of them.”

She's awfully generous with other people's money.

MEMO TO THE MISSING CORTEX: "Those wages are coming from tax dollars from people struggling to make a living, sweetheart."

So, given how expensive it is to live in the city, the clothes she wears, the lifestyle she lived, the Movado watch she wears, how much money was she making as a bartender? What did all her monthly bills add up to(rent, utilities, clothes, cell phone)? Did she live with a Sugar Daddy that paid for everything?

There's thousands of bartenders in NYC who somehow manage to afford to live there. The clothes she was wearing were for a photoshoot and provided by the magazine. She returned them after the shoot was over. You can buy a Movado wristwatch at any department store for under $300. It's not a Rolex.

If there was a sugar daddy behind the scenes, he's been one of the best-kept secrets in the country.

An intern in Washington DC cannot support their family on $15 per hour. They need a ‘living wage’ of about $250,000 per year. With full benefits. And a ‘free’ government car. Unlimited paid sick leave. Pizza Friday’s. You name it.

She better pay them much more because, well, you know, those high D.C. rents and everyone must have a living wage.

She should split her salary into thirds, etc. in the spirit of true socialism.

This is actually a decent move on her part. Generally only the kids of the wealthy can afford to get their foot in the door in Congress via unpaid internships.

She’s not paying them exorbitantly, but as a starter, temporary job, decently.

She gets a taxpayer-provided pool of money to spend on her staff. Paying the interns out of it is just a decent thing to do.

And yes, I despise her politics, arrogance and stupidity.

Will she return stolen tip money now that she’s on easy street?

We have minimum wage laws for most jobs, but not for ones like these, which the wealthy use to get their kids a leg up on life.

It is because these internships are so valuable that we shouldn’t have some dispensation that says they, and they only, can be unpaid.

From your link, congresscritters have both interns and fellows assisting them:

““Intern” and “fellow” are not interchangeable because they aren’t even close to being the same thing. While internships are reserved for inexperienced college students, fellowships are usually serious policy positions and are typically filled by professionals working within other federal agencies or the private sector who are brought to a congressional office for a short stint to help a member of Congress better understand the agency or business for which that member has oversight responsibilities.”

Let’s be clear...

Occasional-Cortex or whatever the hell her name is, isn’t paying them anything; WE are.

She’ll be fleecing the taxpayer for the rest of her life now.

Guess she isn’t so dumb after all... she just got herself elected to a lifetime pension at our expense.

She blames Republicans for "unpaid" interns:

“It is unjust for Congress to budget a living wage for ourselves, yet rely on unpaid interns & underpaid overworked staff just bc Republicans want to make a statement about ‘fiscal responsibility.’ “

Then the facts show that a higher percentage of Republicans pay their interns:

A 2017 report from non-profit group Pay Our Interns found that in the Senate, 51 percent of Republicans and 31 percent of Democrats pay their interns. The study found that in the House, just 8 percent of Republicans and 3.6 percent of Democrats pay interns.

Last week she couldn’t afford an apartment. This week she’s giving away other people’s money.

I’m sure there are plenty of them that can afford to live there. How many are paying taxes on all the money they’re making? It’s a cash business. You’ll get your W2 based on what you sell in credit cards, maybe. The rest is cash in your pocket.

She wants to run her gigantic mouth about the government providing everything, that money comes from somewhere, so I’m hoping she paid all applicable income taxes and didn’t short the IRS on anything. NYC ain’t cheap. Just as, if not more expensive than DC, if she’s living in Manhattan, parts of Brooklyn or LI City. But, apparently she lives in the Bronx so she could be living in one of the few neighborhoods that are affordable.
