The migrant caravan is ruining Tijuana’s tourist industry

SAN DIEGO — Tour operators and medical and dental offices in the Mexican border city of Tijuana are reporting a slowdown in business since a caravan of Central American migrants arrived.

Tourists and visitors have been canceling planned trips to the Mexican state of Baja California since the border crossing shut down briefly a week ago, and according to tour-friendly business owners, many fear getting trapped in Mexico should the crossing close again, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Sunday.

Antonio Gamboa, who owns a well-known food truck park, said business has slumped 30 percent.

“It’s very disappointing because everything is normal in Tijuana, and it’s a very isolated area where the migrants are,” he said.

Thousands of migrants, mostly Hondurans, have joined caravans in recent weeks in an effort to speed across Mexico to request refuge in the United States. The border crossing — which Tijuana residents use to reach jobs and shopping on the US side and US tourists use to head south— was closed briefly last weekend after some migrants tried to rush across.

About 6,000 migrants were staying in an overcrowded shelter that authorities closed over the weekend, moving people instead to a former concert venue farther from the border. Dozens of migrants interviewed by the Associated Press have said they are fleeing poverty and violence back home.

I wouldn't trust my health and safety to go there unless there were no choice. Mexico needs to pick an island.

Why they don’t make the, “migrants” clean up their mess in the sports arena is beyond me. Heck, I would form work groups out of the bunch and make them clean up TJ block by block.

So maybe the Mexicans need to deal with the invaders and get rid of them. If their government won’t, then the people, themselves, could take action.

We have a winner. The Mexican government utterly failed either through incompetence or an ulterior motive thinking they would just be ‘passing through” on the way to the USA. Its not business as usual anymore.

What is Tijuana’s tourist industry?

Sex trade?
People buying clay pots?
People buying pot?
People buying clay pots full of pot?
People under 21 going to Mexico to drink?

As a kid growing up in L.A. we’d go to Tijuana for a bull fight and to get cheep untaxed liquor like Kahlua.
Conditions back then were deplorable 50+ years ago.
Can’t imagine how things are today.

Aiming that comment at Mexico, when it could just as easily be aimed at America. Just sayin'.

Ever visit around LA city hall..?

The ground level is indistinguishable from Mexico.

It happened over the course of DECADES, and the story somehow wasn’t interesting to the US media; pressitute eyeballs glazed over immediately. It stayed that way.

Yet let some Tijuana shopkeepers get ticked off after 3 weeks of illegals, and the news is spashed EVERYWHERE.

The Mexican government had an opportunity to prevent this by stopping the invaders at their own southern border.

But they bought into the fantasy that President Trump would just let thousands of illegals stroll across the border as Obama did.

So they only put up a token resistance and allowed the invaders into Mexico.

Now Mexicans are the ones paying the price for their own governments perfidy.

Let them experience what we go through when illegals from Mexico and other central American countries come into America,
trash it and expect to live on free handouts.

True, although, I suspect that our government would be more likely to move against the peoples' militia than the equivalent in Mexico.

Open a flower shop? Biz license, rent, hire an employee maybe, comply with handicapped access, a blizzard of other paperwork.

Yet behold the sidewalk astride the bus stop:

A Mexican guy is running an entire flower shop right there on the sidewalk.

His entire opening process:

Drop talegate, extract flower bunches, place on sidewalk, STAND AROUND.

And patrol cars cruise right by, they don’t even hit the brakes.

EVERYONE understands the Mexican Florist is illegal.

Many times it seems the entire Calif bureaucracy is set up FOR THAT GUY.

The invaders ruined Tijuana’s tourist trade? Really? IMO, you can only blame Mexico itself for allowing that band of misfits and invaders to cross into their country only to land on our southern borders. If they want them out, deport them back across the Mexican southern border and don’t let them back in.

We visited friends in Tucson once when I was a kid. We all went to Nogales, Mexico to shop. The grownups bought liquor, and we kids bought pot and M-80s. The Border guards said “Are you American Citizens do you have anything to declare have a nice day” and waved us back in to the USA.
