They put gravy on their fries. I think it's called "poontang."

Poutine is more eastern Canada, and cheese is part of it. You can get it at the Culver's burger chain (fries+cheese curds+gravy). The MacDonalds' in Canada have Malt Vinegar packets available.

Yep, and that’s why !
An utterly disgraceful & dishonorable excuse for a human being.

It's too sugary and it smothers the taste of what you pour it on.

Put it on French fries and you don't really taste the potato.

So I can't even contemplate using ketchup nowadays.

But if I go to a fast food joint and they put it on the burgers, I don't really mind it - even kind of like it.

Homemade fries with Heinz tasted like eating at home.

Fries with Hunt’s or Del Monte tasted like going out to eat.

Still add ketchup to a fast food burger. Adds something.

Any FReepers have a recipe for homemade? I've tried several times starting with tomato paste. Gotten very close, then I "can" it in jars. Here's my latest revision:

#10 Can of Tomato Paste (Cash and Carry)
4 cups Warm water (rinse the can)
4 cups White wine vinegar
1 cup Apple cider vinegar
¼ cup Dry mustard powder
¼ cup Dry onion powder
¼ cup Dry garlic powder
1 cup Sugar
1 cup Honey
1 Tbsp Hungarian paprika
3 tsp Ground clove
? tsp Celery seed powder

Heat and stir it all together on the stove until bubbling.
Adjust spices / sugar / liquid to get desired flavor and viscosity.
Fill jars and process 20 minutes.
Makes 5.7 quarts.

“Mom made great fried bologna sandwiches though..”

My mom still calls that “the poor man’s steak sandwich”.
We ate tons of them growing up. Bought a half stick and sliced it herself. We thought it was heaven on bread.

Try mixing 3 parts regular ketchup with one part sriracha sauce.
