Everything was homemade. Remember school lunch ladies? They wouldn’t let you leave the line without the wheat bread and butter, and the carton of milk. It was 2 ¢.

Most lunchroom food back then was made from scratch. Ooooh, no one could concentrate in class with the smell of fresh homemade yeast rolls wafting down the hall. And their big homemade peanutbutter cookies (no one died!).
