~ The FReeper Canteen Presents ~

~ Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 ~

On Sunday, December 7th, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise attack against the U.S. Forces stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. By planning his attack on a Sunday, the Japanese commander Admiral Nagumo, hoped to catch the entire fleet in port. As luck would have it, the Aircraft Carriers and one of the Battleships were not in port. (The USS Enterprise was returning from Wake Island, where it had just delivered some aircraft. The USS Lexington was ferrying aircraft to Midway, and the USS Saratoga and USS Colorado were undergoing repairs in the United States.) In spite of the latest intelligence reports about the missing aircraft carriers (his most important targets), Admiral Nagumo decided to continue the attack with his force of six carriers and 423 aircraft. At a range of 230 miles north of Oahu, he launched the first wave of a two-wave attack. Beginning at 0600 hours his first wave consisted of 183 fighters and torpedo bombers which struck at the fleet in Pearl Harbor and the airfields in Hickam, Kaneohe and Ewa. The second strike, launched at 0715 hours, consisted of 167 aircraft, which again struck at the same targets. At 0753 hours the first wave consisting of 40 Nakajima B5N2 "Kate" torpedo bombers, 51 Aichi D3A1 "Val" dive bombers, 50 high altitude bombers and 43 Zeros struck airfields and Pearl Harbor. Within the next hour, the second wave arrived and continued the attack.

I tend to agree with the guys on the radio - that was a quake. :-) The first 4-anything in a few days. I hope whatever fell is still intact.

No warm-ups this week. Going to be cold the next 7 days, at least, with wintry mix coming in this weekend. grrrrrr!

Already down to 25 and it’s not even 9:00.

Actually today went rather smoothly. I got done what I could in the time allotted. Anything else will have to wait.

Tonight I rest...and spend an hour or so sorting things on my bed. One of these nights I will get to sleep in it. LOL!

NEVR FORGET....

Also, NEVER forget that there probably wouldn’t have been a Hiroshima/Nagasaki in 1945 had it not been for Pearl Harbor in 1941.

Army with a 7-2 record looks good.

Navy is having a poor football season.

I'd like to see Army win their 2nd consecutive, but these games can always go either way.

GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY!

Yay! That’s a nice change. Usually Wed.’s are on the frantic side.

Toss the stuff on the bed in a box to be sorted later. LOL! I know you’d love to sleep in your bed again and that would make it happen sooner.

Yo radu!

Good work day here. Wal-Mart is my only Wednesday stop so my magazines are there early and I'm usually done by 11-11:30.

Tomorrow will be the real test of the new guy. Sad thing is that he's been working here for 2 months and is still really slow. And he's a young kid!

Oh well, just more time for me to have an extended break time.

My warm Winter coat arrived today, and just in time! Suppose to get into the teens tonight and stay cold during the day.

Wassup your way?

I knew you had only one stop on Wed.s but didn’t know if you had to wait for the magazines to arrive.

Dang, 2 months and he’s still messing up? Sounds like one who just doesn’t care about doing a job well. Lots of young ‘uns out there like that these days.

Great that your coat arrived already. Just in time indeed!
Cold here too. It looks like we might dip into the teens tonight, the rate the temp’s dropping now.

Do not like winter!

Howdy, radu!

It was a good day. Spent most of the morning watching the funeral on YouTube. It’s chilly here, too, and for some reason I felt it more today than usual. Maybe this sweatshirt isn’t as warm as some others.

Sorry ti’s so cold there. Guess it’s that time. I looked on DH today and it looked miserable there. I was hoping that you guys didn’t get the snow they did!

Glad it was a good day there, even though it was cold.

It’s too cold here. We never got out of the 30s here and there was still that nasty breeze. That seems to have died down at least.
I checked DH when I got up and BRRRRRRR! I was glad the snow stayed up north and didn’t make it down here. We probably won’t be so lucky this weekend though.

Only thing I’ve seen of the funeral was the bit of news coverage this afternoon. It was over by the time I woke up today. I’m not one for watching funerals in the first place so don’t watch any of them.
I did see part of GWB’s eulogy and it was very touching.

My great grandfather was a Navy salvage diver assigned to the USS Vestal and was part of the post attack salvage effort.

Indeed, my heart went out to him as he became tearful. I don’t know he got through the whole thing. Had to be hard. Jenna had a sweet reading, too.

The wind has kicked up here, too which makes it seem even colder than the 47 that it is. Hard to stand guard over the kitties as they ate tonight. Brr! I did put my coat on. :)
