Human-induced climate change has made the United Kingdom's record-breaking 2018 summer heatwave around 30 times more likely than under normal conditions, the country's meteorological body has said.
The UK as a whole endured its joint hottest summer on record in 2018, and the hottest ever for England.
"Our provisional study compared computer models based on today's climate with those of the natural climate we would have had without human-induced emissions," said Professor Peter Snott from the Met Office and Exeter University.
Snott noted that the "rapidly increasing changes" stem from an increase in the concentrations of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere.
Kathryn Brown, the head of adaptation in the UK's Committee on Climate Change, which advises the government, told CNN that the report reinforces that the government must redouble its efforts to address the impacts of high temperatures and lack of rain.

Fraud and extortion. They are threatening us with climate doom if we don’t give them huge amounts of money. These people belong in prison, or at the end of a rope.
Often it seems that the whole thing is big joke they’re all in on. I was reading an article in the Wall Street Journal recently in which the author was discussing how free market policies can be “pro-climate.” What does that even MEAN?
What would you do if you’re “anti-climate”? Open your windows in the winter while running the furnace full blast? Collect rain in a bucket and then toss it back into the air ... “Fly! Be free!”?
It’s probably all those old dripping Limey bikes still in circulation.
The threat only works if you're frightened by the prospect of "climate doom." Personally, I'm fine with it. I hate the climate.
Lots of other people aren't falling for it, either ... see France, riots and burning ... but that may not prevent their taking the huge amounts of money.
Meanwhile, in Greenland the ice sheet is expanding.

It also works if you’re frightened by the prospect of being targeted, harassed, persecuted, or otherwise maliciously attacked, or alternatively losing out on opportunities, for being identified as a nonbeliever. That’s how this extortion racket is enforced in real-world terms.

This is how we fix climate change. Tell every country who is dealing with self made pollution to clean up its act. It has one year to develop a plan that will take five years to complete. If the country doesn’t comply and complete pollution mitigation within those five years, they will be denied access to markets.

What is really a big disconnect though is that all the doom & gloom has been around predicting a 2C degree increase over the next 80 years and the need to stop it from happening.
Two degrees.
How on earth does that map to insane claims of “heat waves of today being due to warming”? Even if I buy that temperatures will only increase, which I don’t but, there’s no way it would be PERCEIVABLE TODAY.
I was in Europe a few weeks back and they were all taking about how they’re “witnessing global warming” due to it being warmer than usual. SMH - even with the claims being made you wouldn’t be able to FEEL IT NOW. Then on the last day of the trip the temperature PLUNGED...aaaaaand back to normal.
Funny when you point out it is unusually cold you get the response, “it’s just weather, not climate”. When you get an unusually warm moment it’s back to “climate change”.
This is all nonsense. CO2 is 0.04% of the atmosphere, we only impact a margin of this and I’m supposed to believe that the earth is so fragile that tiny changes in this trace gas will cause death and destruction? ...when the earth has been warmer and had higher CO2 levels in the past? SMH - that’s just idiocy!!
And minorities. Don’t forget them. And women too. Women and minorities are always hardest hit by everything.
