Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano on Thursday walked back a previous statement in which he said Donald Trump Jr. expects to be indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller.
"You know I did say that, and I basically was repeating what had already been out there," Napolitano said on "Fox & Friends." "I since have heard from [him], and he says he never said it. And it was an inaccurate statement."
"I take him at his word," he added.
The comment comes just a day after Napolitano said on the Sirius XM radio show of ABC News chief legal analyst Dan Abrams that Trump Jr. told friends that he expect to be indicted in the special counsel's probe into 2016 election inference and any possible coordination with the Trump campaign.
I dont know who, but I do know that Donald Jr. has told friends he expects to be indicted," Napolitano said Wednesday of President Trump's son.
Do you expect hed be indicted? Abrams then asked.
Yes, Napolitano replied.
Mueller's investigation into Moscow's meddling has gained increasing attention in recent weeks. Last Thursday, President Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to one count of making false statements to Congress about his contacts with Russians during the 2016 presidential campaign.
He agreed to cooperate with Mueller's investigation as part of the deal.
On Monday, Mueller's office released court documents asking that former national security adviser Michael Flynn receive no prison time due to his substantial assistance in the special counsel's probe.
Napalitano said on Wednesday that Trump should be "extremely uncomfortable about this."
Yahoo News reported last month that Mueller was investigating both Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump's role in seeking to build a Trump Tower skyscraper in Moscow before their father elected to run for president. Cohen had told lawmakers under oath that talks around the deal were scrapped in January of 2016, but he now says they continued well into the presidential campaign.
Democratic lawmakers on the House Intelligence Committee are also planning to send Mueller transcripts of testimony from people such as Trump Jr. when they take a majority in the lower chamber, according to Reuters.
The lawmakers reportedly want Mueller to review their past testimony before the panel for possible falsehoods.
