A Virginia high school teacher was fired Thursday for refusing to use a transgender student’s new pronouns, a case believed to be the first of its kind in the state.
After a four-hour hearing, the West Point School Board voted 5-0 to terminate Peter Vlaming, a French teacher at West Point High School who resisted administrators’ orders to use male pronouns to refer to a ninth-grade student who had undergone a gender transition. The board met in closed session for nearly an hour before the vote.
Like a similar transgender rights case in nearby Gloucester County that eventually reached the U.S. Supreme Court, Vlaming’s situation could present a novel legal case as public bodies continue to grapple with how to reconcile anti-discrimination policies with the rights of religious employees.

Sweet land of liberty? Not any more! You lose your means of earning a living for words? This is not the USA.
It’s totalitarian fascism creeping up on us.
As Jordan Peterson (Canadian) has said, a law that forbids people from saying certain things is one thing -- You cannot yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater.
But a law which demands that people use certain language and say certain things -- that is unprecedented. Not at all standard. That's tyranny.
As the fairly mild-manner Dr. Peterson says, "I'm NOT doing it!!"
People get the government they tolerate.
I am sure that she is very proud that she had a teacher fired.
Wondering if this teacher could have been targeted by LGBT group because he was a Christian, attended a seminary while living in France, and would be highly unlikely likely to address a girl as a boy.
We are now being ordered to accept mental illness as the norm.
Creeping? I don't know what part of the planet you're on, but this isn't "creeping." It's stormed in like a raging juggernaut and we're just hanging on by a thread.

Are there that many certified French language teachers out there that they can just fire them for this? And what about the funding?
I identify as a 67 year old....I want my social security now.
Maybe a new religion needs to be made that expressly forbids its believers in using the fake pronouns for anyone. Born a boy. Boy for life. Look like whatever you want but biologically he is still a boy.
Or maybe a civil rights law needs to be made to protect people like this teacher. A new protected class. Heck; everyone is in one now except white males.
Are ALL school administrators insane?
We are now being ordered to accept mental illness as the norm.
It started with homosexuality, and the psychiatric profession’s shift in stance that it wasn’t a mental illness.
Any issues related to sex or gender can be traced back to the homosexuals, and the normalization of their mental disorder.
It almost seems an easy call to predict that this guy’s replacement will eventually get caught molesting the kids.
We really need to bring back flogging as a punishment for conviction of the kind of Gestapo behavior exemplified by the West Point School Board.
