Article highlights:

"The Trump administration is making a hard-nosed challenge to China using trade tariffs, investment controls and prosecution of technology thieves, and many in American business are cheering, if silently, having soured on the market after years of trying."

"Relocations firm Santa Fe Group A/S said it moves more families out of China than into it these days. Enrollment at Shanghai American School—where annual tuition tops $30,000—is nearly 17% off its peak five years ago. The American Chamber of Commerce in China said 75% of its members are feeling less welcome. Its Shanghai chapter lost over 600 members in recent years, while a poll of U.S. businesses by the organization in manufacturing-heavy Guangdong found 70% may delay China investment or shift it overseas."

Thank you for the summary. I’m trusting it is unbiased.

When the deck is stacked against you, step away from the table. Find another game.

This confrontation, I refuse to call it a trade war, by Trump is going to take time. It took a long time to get to where we are.

Extended Family members have been working in Singapore for over 20 years in Cell Phone businesses.
They move back to the USA for exactly this reason.
They loved it there but the business opportunities have dried up.

A pity that they can’t be required to remain there. They had no interest in America when they left. Let them be Citizens of the World outside our borders.

The only thing China had going for it was cheap labor. That’s going away, and now they have nothing. Sure, their IQ is a little higher than ours, but 106 IQ sucks, and that’s what they have. In the U.S., it is the people with 130 and up that make things run. China does not have those people.

In this age of global communication, the Chinese Millennials will not tolerate the oppression their parents did. There will be a big change in the Chinese political world.

“Federal prosecutors are expected to unseal criminal charges as soon as next week against hackers linked to the Chinese government who have allegedly engaged in a sophisticated multiyear scheme to break into U.S. technology service providers in order to compromise the networks of their clients, according to people familiar with the matter.”

I’ve worked in China, and of course, the USA.

Government harassment, taxes, unknown fees, cronyism, needing political connections to navigate a vast bureaucracy is a fact of life for business in China.

Its not as bad in the USA, but our government is heading in the same direction. Our small company just paid $75,000 in legal fees and travel to specialized lawyers at the center of the empire in DC to try and understand a recent FDA regulation and government verification process which are both simply nonsensical. I foresee more such expenses in the future. Our vast permanent, statist bureaucracy is merely more subtle about it than they are.

China, like Japan and most other Asian nations doesn’t want any foreigners there. You’ve never seen true racism unless you’ve been to those places. They will tolerate your tourist dollars. But they don’t want you moving there.

He's lucky but he should have learned from Kipling:

Now, it is not good for the Christian’s health to hustle the Aryan brown,
For the Christian riles, and the Aryan smiles, and he weareth the Christian down;
And the end of the fight is a tombstone white, with the name of the late deceased,
And the epitaph drear: ‘A fool lies here who tried to hustle the East.’

— Solo from Libretto of Naulahka.

Rudyard Kipling

Note : 'Christian' as used at the time is the same as 'Western' now

My whole adult life Ive listened to fools say that a communist country would crush us economically.

NO communist country will ever have long term, sustainable, economic growth. Anyone who says otherwise is stupid, or a communist.
