The search continued Friday for the gunman who shot another man at close range in the pedestrian tunnel between two busy Loop subway stations, according to Chicago police.
A 27 year-old-man was shot in the left hip Thursday evening. Police said he likely knew the gunman and was not cooperating with investigators.
The shooting happened just after 5 p.m. near the Jackson stop on the Blue and Red lines. CTA surveillance video appeared to show a man standing in the tunnel that connects the two lines when the shooter walked up and fired twice, hitting him once, police said. Police recovered two shell casings.
The shooter wore a surgical mask across his mouth, police said. He ran west through the tunnel and either exited the subway or got on a train. The CTA shut down Blue Line service between Grand and UIC-Halsted, and ordered Red Line trains to bypass the Jackson stop.
Detectives were reviewing high-definition CTA surveillance cameras and speaking to witnesses, according to police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. The department said it had no immediate plans to publicly release the video.
Given its evidence, we cant share any pictures or video until or unless we exhaust all options of identifying the offender, Guglielmi said. The description that we have is he is an adult male, African-American, medium to large build. A surgical mask obscures his face.
The officers also talked among themselves about the search for the shooter.
Look from Jackson to... one officer began.
Anyone running. Anyone running, another officer cut in.

Not to mention Superintendent Eddie Johnson, affectionately known by the rank and file as “Special Ed”.
Toni sugar tax Preckwinkle is not that popular.
Thanks goodness for the stringent gun laws in Chicag..........DOH!
Gun free Chicago? Really?
Must be fake news like all the black on black murders that happen in Chicago, right?
So, he didn't want to rat out the perp because they were friends?
The shooter must have ignored all of the signs prohibiting firearms on Chicago Transit Authority property.
More’s the pity that licensed gun owners with concealed carry permits are not permitted to carry while on CTA buses and trains.
But hoods can and do.
“Toni sugar tax Preckwinkle is not that popular.”
And $25 per gun and ammunition tax to boot. Filthy Chicago democrats. Probably get elected.
The clearance rate for homicides in Chicago is an abysmal 15.3%.
No one died in this shooting. I’m surprised the Tribune and Chicago Police Department are putting any effort at all into this incident.
“opened fire” is what one does when the shooting lasts a lot longer than two shots and many targets are struck. It sure looks like a single person was the target. This was not a mass murder rampage.
