It could very well be that the gold and other valuables they brought was enough for to finance the wise mens trip. Kind of like opening up your travel wallet and giving half to someone you love. No need to assume it was enough to make one wealthy.
It may have been enough to get Jesus to Egypt where the statement that God called His son out of Egypt (both Israel and His only begotten son)would be finally completely accomplished.

Appears to be assumptions. ANY records anywhere? Gnostic gospels? Appears to be pure conjecture. Besides, they brought Him a CHEST full of gold. That`s a lot of cash.
