Start prepping! Electric grid ‘prime target’ of terrorists, ‘profound threat,’ says DHS
Washington Examiner ^

In a new DHS report that warns that the electric grid is the “prime target” of terrorists, Americans are being urged prepare for the up to six months without electricity, transportation, fuel, money and healthcare.

“People no longer keep enough essentials within their homes, reducing their ability to sustain themselves during an extended, prolonged outage. We need to improve individual preparedness,” said a just-published report to President Trump.

“There needs to be more individual accountability for preparedness,” adds the report, “Surviving a Catastrophic Power Outage,” from the President’s National Infrastructure Advisory Council and published by the Department of Homeland Security. It looked at the potential of a power outage of up to six months and recommended Americans have enough supplies on hand for a minimum 14 days, a standard for some prepper organizations.

“Build a Culture of Preparedness includes objectives to incentivize investments that reduce risk, including pre-disaster mitigation; closing the insurance gap; helping people prepare for disasters; and better learn from past disasters, improve continuously, and innovate,” said a key recommendation.

Sorry, that was a mostly dead link

https://www.mikebrownsolutions.com/steam-engines/

This steam engine is capable of putting out enough power to drive a 500-watt generator, depending on the pressure from your boiler. When the neighbors run out of gasoline and diesel fuel you will still have power from wood, trash, coal or whatever else is available.

The exhaust of this engine will also provide 40,000 BTUs of heat, ideal for steam heating your cabin, providing a heat source for the alcohol still described in our junkyard still book, heating hot water for cooking and other uses.

Our 2-cylinder 3 horsepower steam engine will provide 1500 watts of electrical power and over 100,000 BTUs of exhaust heat.

The 2-cylinder steam engine has an advantage over the 1-cylinder steam engine in that it is “self-starting.” If the piston is at top or bottom dead center on the 1-cylinder steam engine, the engine will not rotate until the flywheel is turned by hand. The 2-cylinder steam engine never has both pistons at top or bottom dead center and will always rotate when steam is applied.

...Soros, Steyer and the Left want President Trump gone so badly and are basically destroying the stock market to do it...

I think you're right. Remember before the election some of the MSM shills were asking 'why isn't Trump running more on the economy - rather than immigration'... And since it was more than 3 or 4 saying it ...

Why would they hack the controls when destroying the tower line supports along a cross country transmission line would work? Mischief done-then hustle on down the line and wait. When repairs are done and power comes back, rinse-and-repeat.

They may be over-thinking the methods of an adversary to monkey-wrench the various energy wires and pipe systems. Then again, the Russians were allowed to steal purposely defective pipeline control software. Results visible with weather satellites.

I’m thinking Kubrick & Co. would be most disappointed that we are turning their words and optics around on them so as to ridicule their preferred “intellectuals” who are attempting to provide superior guidance to those inferior to them. As for me, it works and we need to do it at every turn...

Computers control processes, etc. So they can be cracked remotely. Bring down the Eastern regional grid and it will wreak havoc with other grids due to the inter connectivity....At least that is what I have read/seen on YouTube presentations. Rinse and repeat unless coordinated multi area attacks...

My point is could be EMP or terrorist attack (by destroying power stations, lines, etc. or by cracking the grid)...poster said EMP attack is bull. The article was not focused on EMP and did not even mention it...

I like it, but it’s an awfully expensive solution.

I’m also wondering how easy it is to automate. I work for a health care facility so in an event like the one being described, it’s likely I will be needed (and possibly forced to assist) and my wife will need to keep things operating at home for some period of time. I think she could keep a diesel running given sufficient fuel, but I’m not so sure about a steam engine unless that was her only focus.

We can't do anything about another “Carrington” phenomenon happening again. That would paralyze the entire world for years.

If the electric grid goes down for six months there will be massive deaths in the US, and a social breakdown of law and order. No food deliveries, no medicine deliveries, no internet, no fuel pumped... every person for themselves.

Prepper Ping - U.S. Electrical power grid at risk for terrorist attack

"The President’s National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC) was tasked to examine the nation’s ability to respond to and recover
from a catastrophic power outage of a magnitude beyond modern experience, exceeding prior events in severity,
scale, duration, and consequence.
Simply put, how can the nation best prepare for and recover from a catastrophic power outage, regardless of the cause?"

“The power grid is a prime target for attack by nation states, and it is not fair for ratepayers to bear the full burden
for this national security function,” said the report, which looked at the potential of a “catastrophic” half-year blackout that could impact 75 million."

"The attack could also come with no notice and last half a year. "
Long-duration, lasting several weeks to months (at least 2 months, but more likely 6 months or more)
due to physical destruction to equipment, such as transformers or transmission lines;
or the severity of the event resulting in limited work force to repair damage,
or inability to create or transport replacement parts," said the report.

The reality is that the power grid is at risk, and several attempts by terrorists have already occurred, most notably in California .
Also, most of our power transformers are made in foreign countries (very few made in this country), assuming they have power,
and we are dependent on a supply chain that relies on foreign transportation, and already delivery delays of as much as a year
from time of ordering until delivery, even under current favorable conditions.

See Post #33 if you wish to read the original government document
from "The President’s National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC)".

H/T to TADSLOS, metmom, and LucyT !

Go back and review your physics. The physics of an EMP are well-defined, understood, peer-reviewed, modeled, tested and analyzed.

That’s funny. I was on a power grid working group with the NORTHCOM J3 back in 2009 and the hacking thing, or any loss of the grid, literally kept him up at night. He said it was the ONLY threat that did so. Those who understand what a loss of the grid will do, get it.
