Hmmm ... the ‘Christmas 1994’ issue on Newsweak waxing poetic on how bad the Newt would be for the country following the 1st conservative shocker, the GOP takeover of the House! I well remember how the ‘punditry’ could not believe that the previous Speaker, Tom Foley (D-WA-5) was ousted but had even lost re-election! First GOP control since 1954 BUT also the first whiff on the DEEP STATE revulsion against true conservatives.
We should well remember how similar Newt Gingrich was then, as Speaker, to Trump as President now, determined and focused on his mission. The Democrats pursued him endlessly with 84 total ethics-violation complaints. The only one that stuck was his claiming tax-exempt status on a college course he taught as Speaker. Added to that was the ‘accidental’ recording by Democrat operatives of a cell phone conversation that the LEFT MSM piled onto. He resigned from Congress in 1999, having resigned the Speakership in 1998 following a perceived GOP defeat for his attacks on Clinton in the Lewinsky Affair!
Personally, in spite of all of the attacks on Bush’43 (Bush Derangement Syndrome), I think Newt Gingrich was the most hated GOP Politician PRIOR to Donald Trump. And for much the same reason(s), he was a real threat to the Deep State Uni-Party Town of DC!
