McConnell agrees to vote on Trump-backed criminal justice bill
The Hill ^ | 12/11/2018 | Jordain Carney

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said on Tuesday that he will bring up a bipartisan criminal justice bill up for a vote, marking a significant win for supporters including President Trump.

"At the request of the president and following improvements to the legislation that has been secured by several members, the Senate will take up the recently revised criminal justice bill," McConnell said from the Senate floor.

Backers and advocates have been publicly and privately lobbying McConnell for months to bring the bill to the floor, arguing that they have at least 70 votes in support of the legislation. The bill, spearheaded by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), merges a House-passed prison reform bill aimed at reducing recidivism with four changes to sentencing laws.

McConnell's remarks are a dramatic turn around from last week, when he appeared to warn at a Wall Street Journal event that he did not have time to move the criminal justice bill this year, which he said could take up to 10 days.

You can blame the voters for that. They had a chance to stand up for the nation in the last elections and did not.

Overuse of prisons are a hallmark of communist-style totalitarianism. There’s nothing conservative about forcing otherwise productive members of society to rot. This bill has many safeguards protecting society from those who are a real menace. Innocent political prisoners, or overcharged people, would benefit most.

This bill is also most needed for security reasons. Terrorist sympathizers are recruiting big time in the prison system, with young, previously non-violent offenders with mandatory sentences and few prospects after being a prime target.

There are proper, age old ways to deal with crime. Short stints of hard labor would be most productive and cut crime most. But this bill lowers many societal risks.

Who or what is “Javanka”

A couple of liberal moles in the White House who have the ear of POTUS because one of them is the President's daughter and the other is his son in law.

it has been one of the biggest news items - media campaigns are being waged against him, etc. precisely because he was not making this a top priority.

Who is John Galt?

Yawn, another perfectionist heard from who can’t deal with people as they are. There was NOTHING positive in the House races and very little in the Senate.

It is true that Republicans have been scared of the Goebblesmedia but there is a chance they could learn from Trump and change. There is no chance of that happening with the Demons.

Putting Nancy in charge of the House is the height of idiocy and inexcusable.

Any Republican is better than EVERY Demon.

Perfectionist? Quite the contrary. Oh, I deal w/ those running ‘as they are’....they don’t get my VOTE.

I don’t BLINDLY support those that lie to my face, nor stab me in the back.

R-I-G-H-T. As if the ‘work’ done in the 2 yrs. since taking both chambers wasn’t an indication of how much they’ve “learned” *SMH*

That’s up to the members of the chamber. Maybe if the (R)N(C) ran some people whom actually not only BELIEVED in their platform, but FOLLOWED it, and the Constitution...

Diff w/o distinction

Hysterical exaggerations taken out of context are not convincing to the rational.

There is a big difference between the Republicans and Demons even if you are unaware of it.

Please. Point out the difference(s)??

I was the (R) that kept the border open after 9/11, gave us another slew of illegal/power-grabbing/Rights-trampling dept/agencies (NAS, DHS), TARP/NCLB

Shit, they can’t even DEFUND PP/NEA/NPR

The worst Republicans are better for the US than any Demons at the least there are some good patriotic Republicans and we should get more if people don’t just bitch about how crappy the GOP is.

While there are many Republicans I don’t support it cannot be denied that every R is better than any Demon.

House leadership is already showing this to be true in spades.
