French Riots Really Aren't About Global Warming - They're About Tax Heavy Socialism
Investor's Business Daily ^ | December 11, 2018 | Editorial

After weeks of spreading riots and demonstrations in Paris, socialist French President Emmanuel Macron has had an epiphany or sorts. Not only is he not going to put a new global warming tax on fuel, he's going to let financially-strapped French families keep more of their money from the taxman. At least this year.

"No mercy"? Sounds like total surrender for someone who, just days earlier, arrested 1, 939 people across the country, more than a thousand of those in Paris.

The truth is, Macron has lost control both of the people and of the narrative. His 18% approval rating is one of the lowest in modern French history.

Meanwhile, the French tax revolt is spreading. People in other countries are also fed up with high taxes and arrogant governments staffed by rich, autocratic bureaucrats.

So why have Democrats made a vague "Green New Deal" one of the centerpieces of their agenda for next year's Congress?

In short, the "Green New Deal" is basically just soup-to-nuts green socialism. That's it.

It's yet another step in the Democratic Party's radicalization. As we've noted many times before, Americans won't like green socialism anymore than the regular kinds. Don't be shamed into believing its false claims. It's a system that has never worked anywhere. And it certainly won't work here.

Voters think they elect people who will do their will.

When it becomes obvious that government exists only for its own benefit, the voters have very few options left.

The really great thing about the French riots is that the gilets jaunes aren't really sure why they are rioting.

I watched a video the other day in which a bunch of gilets jaunes rioters were being interviewed. As the interviewees went on and on about the all the reasons for the riots it became clear that though they didn't know it, they were protesting about the all effects of socialism while asking for more socialism.

They were also rioting because the government wasn't responsive to them. That last part means that, without knowing it, they are also rioting because their government is now controlled by the faceless and unelected bureaucrats from EU. So they are also protesting "globalism."

Trump needs to piggyback on this! Macron IS what the progressive Liberal Democrats are:

DJT should Tweet:

“Everyday French citizens have had enough! Big, know-it-all, Government, like US DEMOCRATS want here, is failing working families. SAD!”

The attraction of socialism is whether you put in anything or something , you get back more off the backs of others.

That is not happening in France, and the socialists are upset and demonstrating against the Govt.
What is the point of giving the Govt. your money if you don't get more back than you put in ? - Tom

If high taxation is the main point of contention for these riots, the Yellow Jackets need to get that word out loud & clear. Most people see rioters trying to burn the city down. Many do not see anything of virtue from the protester’s side at all.

Perhaps like most anarchist movements, there are not very many unifying Spokesmen who speak for the whole group.
Occupy, BLM and to some degree Antifa have been that way in the US. What do you want, other than to ‘Bring it all down, Man!’?

The rioters do have a problem getting their message out. It's a French thing.

We had a bit of luck in 2009 when Dems swept into government. They wanted to raise gas taxes but prices were already high and they feared backlashes like Europe is experiencing now. When gas prices dropped, they no longer had the votes. Once enacted, they will never be removed.

Right, that's why Macron placates with minimum wage raise by €100 per month, starting in 2019. Supposedly, this won't cost employers a dime.

France has taxes on everything. You can’t breathe without paying a tax. There is no way to escape taxes. The government controls everything financial. It has its tentacles into everything, and controls everything.

No wonder that France cannot create jobs. This is what the USA is heading for if the dems get control.

Socialism promises a redistribution of wealth but tends to be a little vague about which direction that redistribution is going to run. The ones convinced that they’re going to get rich from it are always the first ones to get sucked dry. In this case the French taxpayers were going to find themselves funding generous African development projects instead of feathering their own nests. I have some bad news for them: they still are.

They went from 39 hour work week to 35 and boosted the pay to make up the difference, so all they need to do is reduce the work week even more! More leisure time, more wine, Viva LA France!

They also thought they were going to be the ones receiving it. Instead, hordes of muslim invaders are scarfing it all up without ever having paid a euro into the pot.
