I pay about $10/month for a dumb phone, but it costs me $1 for a text message (other than Amber Alerts and such). I typically don’t read them.

Oops....The CA tax is not a per text tax...

back about more than ten years ago, my plan billed for text messages received. The phone bill more than doubled because my daughter had a couple friends that kept sending her texts multiple times per day, even though she asked them not to.
