A stable world order is a rare thing. When one does arise, it tends to come after a great convulsion that creates both the conditions and the desire for something new. It requires a stable distribution of power and broad acceptance of the rules that govern the conduct of international relations. It also needs skillful statecraft, since an order is made, not born. And no matter how ripe the starting conditions or strong the initial desire, maintaining it demands creative diplomacy, functioning institutions, and effective action to adjust it when circumstances change and buttress it when challenges come.
Eventually, inevitably, even the best-managed order comes to an end. The balance of power underpinning it becomes imbalanced. The institutions supporting it fail to adapt to new conditions. Some countries fall, and others rise, the result of changing capacities, faltering wills, and growing ambitions. Those responsible for upholding the order make mistakes both in what they choose to do and in what they choose not to do.

I.E., our betters KNOW how to do it right this time. NOT! Just wait until occasional cortex takes her seat and fills the heads of the ones currently filled with mush as to how everything is available because all you have to do is "Just pay for it." Anyway, get a fresh cup of coffee and have at it. Some other "interesting" articles in here someplace.

Since the dawn of civilization every society is composed of three things: The family, the church, and the marketplace.
Government is a bureaucratic overlay. Sometimes necessary, but always burdensome.

Mark Steyn in America Alone talks about the glorious time in the US from maybe 1950 to 2000 as being very unusual. Wish I had the quote handy.

Where U.S. foreign policy got into trouble—such as in Vietnam and Iraq—it was not because of alliance commitments or considerations of order but because of ill-advised decisions to prosecute costly wars of choice. Nope. It was because of the primacy of globalists in the U.S. Media that it got into trouble. The U.S. Media defeated us in both cases.
I read much of the article, and it seems simply wrong in a great many of its assumptions about reality.
Much of the analysis is wrong.
For example, the order after WWII is more of an extension of the order created by the British Empire, than a completely new order. Both are simply extensions of the gradual dominance of Christendom after 1500.

The United States also needs to reach out to others to address problems of globalization, especially climate change, trade, and cyber-operations. These will require not resurrecting the old order but building a new one. Efforts to limit, and adapt to, climate change need to be more ambitious. The WTO must be amended to address the sorts of issues raised by Chinas appropriation of technology, provision of subsidies to domestic firms, and use of nontariff barriers to trade. Rules of the road are needed to regulate cyberspace. Together, this is tantamount to a call for a modern-day concert. Such a call is ambitious but necessary.Yep, the US response to the deterioration of Civilization brought on by Globalism should be MORE Globalism and Global Government tyranny over US civilization, Courts and Free Speech.

Yup. Interesting and convoluted piece with many incorrect (IMHO) conclusions or suppositions. Helps to keep us alert as to their sneaky snakey plans.

Like communism, it starts with a flowery theory that ultimately ends with suffering and bloodshed. History instructs, but we have an inexplicable inability to learn from it. The legacy of mankind is a series of boom and bust. We are slouching toward a huge bust.

The article is drivel aimed at dressing up an attack on Trump with fancy concepts and historical references. Haas ignores the actions of the Obama Administration in rescuing Iran from almost certain collapse by an infusion of cash and access to international markets in return for a bogus promise temporarily to limit its development of nuclear weapons. Haas ignores the effects of bad trade deals such as NAFTA and the Pacific Rim Partnership on the American worker and the American economy. Hass brushes aside the legitimate disputes over the causes and impacts of global warming. Haas ignores the consequences to America and Europe of unrestrained immigration; ignores the increase in social welfare programs to protect these immigrants, many of whom refuse to integrate into and become part of the countries they have chosen for their new home; ignores the resurgence of old hatreds brought to the shores of Europe and America by these immigrants; and ignores the breakdown in the culture and cohesiveness of the citizens of those countries. Haas' omissions are willful and reflect his belief in the globalist system at the expense of the country.
