He didn’t torpedo Kavanaugh because he knew Kavanaugh was a fellow Bush League Republican who was unlikely to side with the citizens.

He may have torpedoed Kavanaugh ifhis vote would have been decisive. But with Manchin and Collins voting for Kavanaugh, Flakes vote would have caused a tie which Pence would have broken.
