Roy Williams calls Silent Sam ‘divisive,’ says it should not be on UNC’s campus

North Carolina basketball Coach Roy Williams said Friday that the university should not re-erect the “Silent Sam” statue on the Chapel Hill campus, calling the Confederate monument “divisive.”

“In my own personal belief, I think that it would be best for it to not be here,” Williams said, according to the Raleigh News & Observer. “And I think some of those people in the decision-making business would rather it not be here, but the only people that can change that are the ones who can make the laws, and I haven’t spoken to those people about it.”

After years of protests focused on the monument, erected in 1913 to honor students who fought for the Confederacy, demonstrators tore it down in August, shortly before the start of the university’s academic year. The pedestal on which it stood has remained empty since, and the university’s board of trustees approved a plan earlier this month to house the statue in a new $5.3 million history center on campus.

This week, a group of more than 200 current and former Tar Heel student-athletes — including basketball greats Vince Carter, Jerry Stackhouse and Harrison Barnes, and current players K.J. Smith, Garrison Brooks, Brandon Robinson and Sterling Manley — sent a letter to university leaders urging them not to display the statue at the institution.

“A monument to those who fought and killed to keep Black people enslaved has no place on our campus,” the letter read. “White supremacy has no place on our campus.”

According to the News & Observer, Williams said he told players they had a right to sign on to the letter.

So now democrat Trump-hating Roy Williams joins with the rest of the leftist haters to run his goofy mouth about Silent Sam, calling the monument to war dead “divisive” and says it needs to be removed from anywhere on the campass of UNC. He gets some worthless petition signed by a bunch of OUT OF STATE basketball players, that you can bet are 100% liberal like that deputy dog-looking SOB is. Roy Williams is a traitor to his ancestors and a disgrace to the state. Once again it’s state law. You can’t remove an historical monument from the original place it stood. I would be willing to bet the State Legislature revisits the law and strikes it down. Mob rule rules in this country and the police are told to let the mob do whatever in the hell they want to do. If this does not stop soon, and it’s happening all over the country there’s a war coming. We might as well be living in a third world country. We’re a nation without laws and crazied democrats are in charge.

I was born and raised in NC. My ancestors go back to over 250 years when the Highlanders were ran out of Scotland by the Redcoats. Thousands upon thousands settled in North Carolina. They fought in the Revolutionary War and the War of Sesession. My gg grandpa fought in the war and died in 1919. My grandma would tell us kids the story of how his brother was fighting by his side and was KIA, to be buried in a mass grave in Virginia. Countless other relatives fought and many died, Not a one owned a slave. For years after the war the veterans of both sides held reunions and got
along fine. These men went through a terrible war but didn’t hate each other after it was over. Confederate generals were held in high regard by all Americans. Presidents attended the reunions. If these men who killed each other wholesale held no bitterness in their hearts for each other what in the hell is wrong with these idiots of today. A country learns from its history and moves on. You don’t try to destroy that history.

These are the same student athletes who couldn't pass the regular courses so the athletic department had them enroll in phony courses to make sure they could get a passing grade.

Silent Sam was a memorial to those alumni who died and it was a statement about peace. Are these morons too stupid to see that? Look at the statue. Silent Sam is carrying no cartridges. He has an empty weapon. These people are too ignorant and the state of North Carolina gave them college degrees.
