What is most needed is a new bridge over the Potomac, which would connect I-370 and the “Inter-County Connector” (MD 200) with routes 7 and 28 at the Fairfax-Loudoun county line in VA.
The NIMBYs in MD don’t want it; there is no crossing over the Potomac for 40 miles between the Beltway and US 15 between Frederick and Leesburg (if you don’t count the tiny General Jubal Early 6 car rope ferry at White’s Ferry).
Agree on the bridge, there is no other option that could reduce traffic on the beltway and 270 anywhere near as much.
As for congestion relief, I believe that one of the more cost effective options is to advertise the MARC trains in the Frederic through Clarksburg area. Would get maximum effects within about 3 Months of choosing to spend the money, but also need to have low expectations for maximum congestion relief.
Actually White’s Ferry holds alot more than 6 cars. I always thought it was small, but it ain’t THAT small.
The 301 bridge over the Potomac needs replacement as well
Exactly correct. The wealthy elites who live anywhere near the Potomac River do not want any big roads near their estates. It is crazy (evil) that a person going from Gaithersburg to Dulles has to go down and get on the DC. Beltway.
There also needs to be an interstate that goes from New York to Richmond without using the DC beltway. Again its a NIMBY situation, though here I think that its more of a swamp power rather than an elite thing.
