“Couldn’t possibly be illegals defecating in the fields. “
Nah, no way. Everyone who gets a bubbling gut walks a 1/2 mile+ to erupt in a portajohn.
Damn near killed ‘em. Why we let this continue beets me.
Yup: E. coli O157:H7

Now lettuce into your country!
_______________
Please romaine calm.
We need to have strong borders or theyll kale us all!
Yes, kosher romaine is perfect. It cant be grown outside because the leaves can hide tiny bugs, and most orthodox are more scared a dead bug might be in the leaves than of E. coli. So good choice! (Personally, though I keep kosher, I definitely subscribe to what you cannot know wont hurt you, so I dont feel the need to go over eachsalad with a magnifying glass.
“Crop crapping.” A good phrase for just what I was thinking. The food-borne illnesses are one more cost these border jumpers are causing to their American hosts.
Faking data is all about the $$$$$$$. It's very likely most all studies are fake.
No way would I live within 5 miles of a dairy farm, a pig farm or a sewage plant. Nasty places.
There’s also “microwavable” whole raw potatoes individually wrapped and costing the same as a 10 lb bag of same whole raw potatoes not individually wrapped or labeled “microwavable.” What a scam but people buy them.
Normally, I discard 3 outter leaves off iceberg. Last night, 6 leaves were discarded.
“No way would I live within 5 miles of a dairy farm, a pig farm or a sewage plant. Nasty places.”
The “smell of money.” Add to that “commercial AG operation” and I’m in complete agreement. I have witnessed processed municipal waste being sprayed upon “growing” lettuce crops in California.
I get the jokes on migrant workers, but people really need to get a clue. Government is quashing the true causes of these outbreaks due to - as you cite - the $$$$$. Cities save money by not having to pay for wasteful disposal and actually generate a revenue stream from selling contracts for biosolids. It’s big business, almost completely unregulated by our health authorities (to state nothing of all the other contaminants going into the soil, including pharmacological compounds).
The $$$ (take note of both revenue comments and “reducing greenhouse gas emissions”):

My research on this has revealed information on our food supply that is truly appalling. It’s a simple thing to bar fertilization after sprouting, but that’s not profitable. The health of the soil is another matter altogether, but part of the overall equation as well.
This 2006 grad paper I found - Regulate This: The Politics and Practice of Poo Farming - demonstrated remarkable prescience of the author with this comment in his Conclusion:
“I should hope that it doesnt take a health crisis for the government to seek precautionary measures to ensure the safe use of biosolids on farmland. Despite this concern, we should all certainly continue to enjoy our home-grown produce, which continues to be among the best in the world but it probably wouldnt be a bad idea to give it an extra wash and scrub just to be sure that yesterdays flush isnt part of todays breakfast.”
