People don’t realize the risk of growing and selling any leafy vegetable is greater than the risk of any pharmaceutical or industrial product you can imagine. There are constant cases of E.Coli, and the FDA comes down like a hammer on any operator who might be suspected of being a source. The media will transmit it in seconds. I’m surprised anyone remains in the business.
The cost of lettuce should be $25 per head to make up for this regulatory, civil and media risk.
So the time has come to pay AMERICANS a wage that AMERICANS will accept to tend and harvest those crops.
And at that wage they can wipe their butts with Charmin rather than Romaine.
