An Oakland, CA company is selling a dazzling pinecone-shaped treehouse for $150,000

An extraordinary treehouse with 64 diamond-shaped windows forming an 11,000-pound pinecone that dangles high in the trees is on the market for $150,000.

If you have a piece of open land with towering trees, think Redwoods, this could be a great opportunity.

Dustin Feider, of O2 Treehouse in Oakland, is the brains behind the design and says the work was built earlier this year for home goods company S.C. Johnson and their Glade fragrance line. "They gave me artistic freedom," says Feider whose company has built more than 60 treehouses since its founding in 2006. "They wanted something clear and crystal that represented the smells of the forest."

Ever since the completion of the commercial shoot, the treehouse has been hanging 60 feet above the ground on a piece of land in Bonny Doon near Santa Cruz and renting out for $350 on Airbnb. With 102 square feet, the space is big enough for two twin beds. The walls of spiraling windows immerse you in canopy with 360-degree views.

The price also includes a "skillfully hand-crafted indoor/outdoor bathroom connected to the treehouse via wooden catwalk," according to the listing on the O2 Treehouse website.

The price isn't firm as O2 Treehhouse would also need to figure out installation costs at a new location.

You don't have to buy it -- it's on AirBNB now. Looks like a FUN way to spend the evening! It's in Bonny Doon, California in the redwoods.

I remember when the Bonny Doon winery was still up in the mountains. Bunch of hippies who made some pretty decent wine.

You need a treehouse when you’ve got money to burn.

This is just the cost of the treehouse. Add in installation costs on to the base price along with the cost of the lot on which it will reside.

Will Feider come out and wash the windows for you? They will quickly moss over.

Couldn’t you just build a 1000 Square Foot geodesic dome home on the ground and be done with it?! Build your dome on the top of a hill if you have to look down at the Earth. Geez, it is as if everybody is trying to pretend they are living inside a Christmas Ornament. Oh wait. I guess a snow globe(dome home) is a Christmas Ornament. Well I guess a 1000 sq. Foot Geodesic Dome Home would be more practical and cost effective to boot. With the money saved from a dome home they could build an elevator to take the kids on up to the higher elevations.

Bonny Doon winery. It sounded so cool I looked it up. It’s still in operation I think. Does this look like the same place?

Geodesic domes aren’t all that they’re cracked up to be. Some of the early avid proponents turned against the idea after long-term experience with them.

I was once crazy about the idea - until I met someone who actually lived in one over years. They leak, and aren’t nearly as energy efficient as ‘they’ say.

I still think it’s a good idea, but needs a lot of work.

I love the idea of things like this, and love looking at them as well as all the ‘tiny houses’; but couldn’t live in one. My life is too big ;-)

You get a faster turnover to the next renter that way.

I lived in a geodesic while in college in Carbondale Il, when Bucky Fuller taught there, even took one of his classes. Domes do leak and furniture is not practical.

Put it in a place with zero sunlight or the occupants will fry.... If the contents of the "house" don't combust first.

Like ants under a magnifying glass.

That’s the place. To be more accurate, the winery is still probably up in the mountains, but I think the tasting room has moved down into Santa Cruz.
